AFRIKIDSAfriKids is a project aimed at creating an enabling environment for orphans in Tanzania, allowing them to seize opportunities for a brighter future. It was founded in 2011 by a group of university students and graduates from around the globe in conjunction with AIESEC in Tanzania.

After being confronted with some aspects of the harsh reality faced by Tanzanian orphans, the founders of AfriKids decided to create an unbiased projectfocused on raising resources, and one which guarantees that the children will be impacted effectively. This year we are partnering with SOS children’s village where interns will go and teach the children in that orphanage. To be fair to previous orphanages EPs are encouraged to fundraise at their home places before coming so we can fullfil needs of these three financially needy orphanages. We can not do fundraising here since the corporate environment is not so supportive that it is very hard to fundraise here. Volunteers will be teaching at SOS and affiliated schools but at some point they will visit financially needy orphanages to see what they need and buy them from the fundraised amount.

• Interns are supposed to look for in kinds (tangible goods) from different partners, items such as clothes, shoes, mattress, mosquito nets, and food for the orphanage• Training children on Hygiene, English language, music, personal development, art/ craft and other necessary lessons depending on the needs of the Centre • Creating a friendly learning environment and encouraging participation from the children• Conducting different fundraising activities to collect funds for the orphanage needs.

The ages of the children range from about the age of 3 to the later ages of 18. Interns can choose to contribute to any age group and participate and suggest possible activities in the orphanage. Even though interns interact with all the children regardless of their age, it is not uncommon that an intern finds his or her own niche in the volunteer work. This might mean teaching a certain subject, working with a specific age group or even contributing to everyday tasks in the office.

SOS village has a timeline which in periods like late May to early July and late November to early January children are on vaccation and avail-ble all of the time in the orphnage, this gives a platform for volunteers to work within the orphanage full time. In months after that children start going to school and the only available at the orphanage are kindergarten ones so during this time volunteers will have to go to respective schools to work as teaching assistants in various subjects.

JHM PROJECT

JHM Foundation is based in the Mbezi kwa Msuguli community, on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam. We work on community development projects related to water access and economic empowerment. Our goal is to create financially self-sustainable projects that help spur economic growth, especially amongst Tanzanian youth and women. We do this through providing inexpensive solutions to daily challenges (such as access to clean, reliable water) and by mentoring youth and women to develop their own businesses.

Our objectives are the following:

1. To reduce poverty for Tanzania’s children, youth and women by promoting water projects.

2. To increase financial inclusion for Tanzania’s youth and women by promoting savings and es-tablishing credit profiles which will enable them to develop in different aspects of their lives.

3. To increase opportunities for Tanzanian chil-dren, youth and women by providing them a free education concerning economic development projects.

4. To reduce crime among the youth and vio-lence against women and children by full en-gagement in the economic sphere.

5. To address the perception of inferiority and discrimination toward women and add value to their lives by empowering them to realize their life objectives.society development
