    COMPANY BRIEF

    The Kerala electrical and alhed engineering Co. Ltd. (KEL) was established

    in 1964 in the state of Kerala. It is fully owned by the state of Govt. The company

    has progressively expanded its range of manufactured goods and services over the

    years and has strategically broadened its customer base on a global scale KEL.

    Offers to its various manufacturing units and service divisions with a manpower

    base of over 1200 which include over 250 highly qualified and well trained

    professional engineers. We are one of the biggest public sector company in the

    state.

    The primary interest of the company in the field of electrical equipment and

    machinery encomparing aras such as generated transmission and distribution and

    utilization of electric power. On the generating equipment side, KEL is a leading

    manufactures of brushless alternator used for train, lighting and air conition.

    In the field of transmission of distribution of electric power own efforts have

    been directed in the manufacture of trans formers, switchgear, transmission line

    towers substation equipment an accessories. We are leading manufacturing and

    supplies of these items to various state electrical boards in India.

    We are also experienced and competent in the commissioning and

    maintenance of electrical power transmission and distribution network which

    include HT/LT substations both indoor and outdoor type package/utilized

    substations over head transmission lines etc.

    We have as a company in tune with modern technology associated with

    reputed overseas manufacture who are experts in their respective fields.

    The technical collaborations we have had with EVR of FRANCE (now

    amalgamated with ALSTITOM ATLANTIQOE) for the manufacture of inductor

    type brushless alternation UNELEC of FRANCE for the manufacture of HRC

    fuses and MOTEORS LEROY SOMER of france for the manufacture or brushless

    a.c. generators are ample of this.

    The company now has four manufacturing units located in various districts

    of the state. Three more new manufacturing units are being set up.

    The inductors type brushless alternator which is being manufacture at our

    plant in quilon district has been widely acclaimed and accepted by many railway

    systems around the world. More than 20000 such alternators are in operation with

    the Indian Railways alone. The second planed began operation in 1968 in

    Ernakulam District with the manufacture of distribution transformers of various

    capacities. The third plan at Plghat district which was formally known as

    MENCOS, was taken over by KEL in 1979. It produces HRC fuses and other L.T.

    switch gear items with the commissions of the unit at Kasargod district in the year

    1990 for the manufactures of general purpose brush less a.c. genitor KEL has

    consolidated its position as a leading manufactures of electrical equipment in

    India. This state of the art plant its equipped with the most modern facilities which

    includes computer aided design center and the latest in CNE machines amongst

    other hi tech manufacturing and testing facilities.

    Research and Development wing of KEL has to its credit many special

    application generators and other produces which were designed and developed

    ground power units for auro and donor aircrafts, brushless alternator for use in

    automobile replacing the DC dynamics and conventional alternator are some of the

    achievement of our R and D wing.

    Our products are marketed through an extensive network of marketing

    The TRA DIVI went on stream in 1968. It has been able to carve a niche for

    itself in the manufacture of distribution transformers and Mealier Power

    transformers of rating upto 1600 KVA and up to 33 KV class.

    The dual ratio transformer developed by the division ahs proved to be a

    winner. Adaptable to the interchargeable voltage classes the equipment has found

    ready acceptance in the market.

    Utilized substation is another much sought after product evoled by the R & D wing

    and translated into a roaring success. Trams formers saves from this divisions

    come with more special and unique features. Incorporation of these features has

    helped to ensure a steady secondary voltage supply voltage drops upto 35% are

    easily taken care of by these transformers equipped with O.L.T.C that too with 17

    different tap ratios to opt for.

    These transformers have been found in indispensable where continuous industrial

    processing involved and where uninterrupted power supply is to be explicitly

    maintained.

    The innovative ideas from the transformer divisions are backed up by a resourceful

    R & D helped is no small measure by the design department.

    STRUCTURAL DIVISION

    The structural Fabrication shop was set up in 1967 with an installed capacity of

    1200 MT per annum. The main products handled by the division which caters to

    the heavy fabrication sector are:

    o Hydraulic control gates & orsts for power generation / immigration projects

    of state electricity boards. State imitation department.

    o Industrial building structural, transmission towers. Switch yard structure etc.

    o Pressure vessels, process equipment storage tanks and piping etc.

    The division has a team of qualified engineers, technicians and other staff

    which adequate experience in reasons of designing, fabrication and erection.

    Equipped with sophisticated machinery.

    Design, fabrication, supply Erection and commissioning of a number of

    facilities such as Hydraulic contents Gates and Hoists, Penstock pipes, Gantry

    Cranes have been successfully taken up on a turn key basis.

    Most of the employees suggest that their present job is challenging and

    suiting than their abilities. But some of them think that present job is not

    challenging and suiting their abilities. It shows that they are not fully

    satisfied with this job.

    There is no proper employees participation in mgt decision making which

    indicate that they do not get satisfaction from the job.

    Half of the employees show an average communication with their

    subordinates, while some of them show a good communication with their

    subordinates because they think that communication plays an important role

    in mgt organization.

    Half of the employees suggest that there is an adequate promotional

    opportunity in the co operation. While the rest of half think that there is no

    adequate promotional opportunities in the co operation.

    SUGGESTION

    Suggestions are drawn in the light of insights obtained from the analysis of

    the survey conducted. Some of the measures can be put into practice from better

    results. Here are some suggestions that will help in further improvement from the

    present situation.

    Company should take necessary action to improve the relation between mgt

    and employees so that management can also include the employees in

    decision making process to collect information and to select the best

    alternative.

    Welfare measures adopted by the co-operative should be improve as the

    employees are not satisfied with the present welfare measures.

    Some of the employees are not fully satisfied either the grievance handling

    machinery of the co-operative. Mgt should take necessary steps to make this

    active.

    Promotion should be given on the basis of experience, sensitivity,

    performance ability and educational qualifications of the employees.

    More attempts should be made to provide better communication with

    superiors. For this staff meetings. Employees news letters, face to face

    communication and the mgt are suggested.

    Managers should be exposed to training programs to adapt to the new

    changing environment. Seminars role plaving etc are suggested to shed off

    the resistance of managers to change.

    Almost all the employees are satisfied with the present working hours that

    they will help the employees to put their effort that led to increase in

    organizational productivity.

    Company is not following any latest technology from the part of employees.

    Grievance settlement machinery is an important factor in every organization.

    In kerala most of the employees are not satisfies with the method adopted by

    the grievances settlement handling machinery.

    Half of the employees agree that the co-operation have taken steps for the

    operation is not playing any role in job satisfaction.

    CONCLUSION

    The study was conducted to measure the job satisfaction level of the

    employees in KEL company Limited.

    Datas for the studies were collected using questionnaire method. The sample

    size of the study is 50 respondents. Convenience sampling method was used for

    collected data. The researcher found no difficulty in collecting data from the

    employees. The employees were all very co-operative and were willing to lend

    there views and valuable suggestions.
