We’re Moving!Physician Documentation is relocating from “MD REPORTS/TRANSCRIPTS” to “Clinical Documents”.

We are cleaning house in preparation for Computerized Physician Documentation.  Pilot Physicians will begin entering their own H&P’s, Progress Notes, etc. on July 15th.  By creating the 

new Clinical Documents folder we are organizing and making room for these reports.Questions?

Impact?• One computer per inpatient nursing station / ED Pod  will be assigned for the pilot 

physicians to use.  Please give the pilot physicians priority on these computers.• The Computerized Physician Documentation will only be viewable within 

PowerChart,  eliminating dictated or handwritten notes.

Torrance Memorial Medical Center has received three distinctions from the American Heart Associations’ Get With The Guide-lines® awards: Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award, Heart Failure Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award and the Re-suscitation Silver Quality Achievement Award. This is the second straight year Torrance Memorial has been recognized with Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Awards in the Stroke and Heart Failure categories and the first year it has received the Resusci-tation Silver Quality Achievement Award. These accolades demonstrate Torrance Memorial’s continued efforts in meeting the rigorous guidelines of care recommended by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology.

Torrance Memorial Medical Center has been ranked as one of the best hospitals for 2014-15 in Califor-nia and the Los Angeles metro area for the third straight year by U.S. News & World Report, placing the hospital in the top 6 percent in the state. The report recognizes Torrance Memorial Medical Center for providing high performing and quality care in seven specialty areas: diabetes/endocrinology, gastroen-terology/GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, orthopedics and urology. “We are very pleased to be recognized among the best hospitals in California,” said Craig Leach, presi-dent and CEO, Torrance Memorial Medical Center. “That we have added yet another specialty area—gastroenterology/GI surgery—to our high performance areas this year, is a testament to our entire pa-tient care team and its commitment to excellence and providing the best care to our local community.”

For 2014-15, U.S. News evaluated hospitals in 16 adult specialties and ranked the top 50 in most of the specialties. Just 3 per-cent of the nearly 5,000 hospitals that were analyzed for Best Hospitals 2014-15 earned national ranking in even one specialty. U.S. News also recognizes hospitals that perform nearly at the level of their nationally ranked peers and represent valuable re-gional sources of quality care. “The data tell the story – a hospital that emerged from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” says U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. “A Best Hospital has demonstrated its expertise in treating the most challenging patients.” U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition or extra risk because of age or multiple health problems. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties. The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Using the same data, U.S. News produced the state and metro rankings. The rankings are freely available at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and will appear in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2015” guidebook, available in August.
