The Project will utilize a $75 million Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment (ARRA) to undertake rail improvements in the Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts. The Project also includes bicycle/pedestrian improvements in City of Northampton, MA with the construction of an underpass that runs under the rail line. An additional benefit of the rail line rehabilitation will be improved freight service for customers along the line and within western Massachusetts. improvements to the Knowledge Corridor will occur on the Connecticut River mainline of the Pan Am Southern (PAS) railroad , a joint venture between Am Railways and Norfolk Southern. MassDOT, through its Rail and Transit Division, has designated the Massachusetts Bay Transportation i Design and Construction Department to oversee the implementation of the Project through final design and construction and has entered into a I r.,,n,,tnJcl•inn Agreement with Pan Am Southern , LLC to construct the Project. and is currently being revised to ' high level platforms. To mitigate the delay to ready for revenue service, MBTA will construct temporary platforms and perform other work to support revenue service as an emergency repair contract through MassDOT managed by MBT A. Damon Road Traffic Signal Installation has from Underpass and will be incorporated into the emergency repair contract. The Underpass will be included in the Stations bid package. E CORRIDOR PAN AM - Grade crossings, track work & signal equip. & infrastructure installations ongoing. PAS completed grade crossings throughout the Right of Way . Line of sight clearing , roadway striping and signage remain to be completed. PAS Signal crew installing conduit & control devices at grade crossings. PAS crew preparing Greenfield & Northampton track beds and clear ROW edge. NS track crew completed CWR I , with 4.5 mile remaining to be constructed by PAS.
