In 2013, Danone realized that its industry-leading sustainability efforts were largely discounted or ignored because the firm followed its own internal measurement and integrated reporting system. As a way to increase the credibility of its sustainability efforts the firm decided to work with the International Integrated Reporting Council to pilot that organization’s integrated reporting standard. This effort, however, proved to be problematic.
