B.S.A.V.A. 1965 Annual Congress, April qrd-qth INTRODUCTION TO THE SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME MEMBERS of the Committee concerned with the organisation of B.S.A.V.A. Congress Scientific Programmes always attempt to please everyone but never succeed. This year however, criticisms of past years have been studied carefully and every effort has been made to compile a programme which is both varied in subject matter as well as degree of “specialisation”. During the past year a number of ‘groups’ have come into being and have held meetings in various parts of the country. Four of these ‘groups’ have organised sessions on the first day of the Congress. These are open to all members of the profession and the subjects chosen are of particular interest to people in practice. The idea of having three group meetings running simultaneously is an experiment which we hope will succeed although it is appreciated that delegates may find difficultly in deciding which meeting to attend-please remember that an effort is being made on the first day to satisfy the special interests of as many as possible. This year more time has been allocated to discussion and many Chairmen will be given the choice of allowing a general discussion to continue if it is going well or limiting the discussion to a small group of people who wish to talk informally with the speaker. The decision to switch from general to informal discussion will rest entirely with the Chairman and those not wishing to stay will be given an opportunity to leave the Congress room-surely a suitable moment to visit the Trade Exhibition ! Question Time is an inovation and the proceedings will be quite informal with no set papers, just experts to answer your questions which should be written clearly and handed to the Chairman before the session begins. After the Congress please send your views of these new ideas-polite or otherwise to the Hon. Secretary of the B.S.A.V.A. It is only by receiving your opinions that we can hope to provide the type of Congress which the majority require. W.
