19. Programme structure See Programme Handbook for modules to be taken
If a Masters programme, are level 6 credit levels permitted within the programme? NA
Maximum number of credits permitted with a condoned fail (core modules excluded) None
Are students permitted to take any additional credits, as per regulation A3; 5.10? No
Are students permitted to take a substitute module, as per regulation A3; 20.7? No
Are there are any exceptions to the regulations regarding credits, progression or award requirements? (where relevant the information should also differentiate the particular requirements of pathways within a programme or nested/exit awards)
There are 4 core/compulsory modules in all totalling 120 credits. Students must pass all 4 core/compulsory modules to complete the PG dip in operative
dentistry. Modules 1 and 2 are usually taken in year 1 and modules 3 and 4 in year 2. Students may apply to amend the normal modular structure with prior
approval of the programme director. Students may choose to exit after successful completion of modules 1 and 2 (60 credits) in the taught modules and will
be eligible for the award of PGCert in Dental Studies Individual details of modules 1-4 are in the module specifications.
Satisfactory completion/pass of modules 1 and 2 are a pre-requisite before progressing to module 3 and 4. Modules 1 and 2 are co-requisites of each other
likewise are modules 3 and 4.
Within each module, each student must have satisfactorily completed the pre-requisites to be eligible to sit the examinations. .(Please see module
specification for details)
Students must pass all four modules with an overall mark of 50% in each in order to be awarded the Diploma. Compensation will NOT be permitted within
modules, each individual element of assessment must be passed with a mark of 50%. The percentage weighting for the calculation of merit and distinction will
directly reflect the proportion of credits allocated to each module in relation to the overall credit taken within each programme/award, with classification
thresholds set according to the core scheme as set out in the “Credit Framework Regulations” of King’s College London.
Within a module if a student on the first attempt fails one element of the assessment process outlined in the module specification paperwork they can resit that
element of the module prior to those modules/next modules starting again. If a student fails a second attempt they will not be able to sit again without
consideration for extenuating circumstances by the examination board (KCL regulations A3 section 17 and 18) .
Should students fail both elements of the examination within a module they will not be permitted to resit either element. In extenuating circumstances, the
examination board could allow the candidate to repeat the module and its co-requisite module before being allowed to sit the exam a final time (KCL
