Thetford, We Revere Thee
Thetford, we revere thee,Give to you this song,
Pledge our hearts in unityTo make the pledge more strong.
In the future years we’ll keep a mem’ryOf a school whose aims are high,
Whose sons and daughters o’er the landBehold their Alma Mater,
A source of strength for aye.
Time lends only gloryTo what was built of old.
May goals of your tomorrowClimb to heights untold.
You have fame that ever shall inspire usTo leave no work undone.
So, Thetford, we renew our thanks,We pause once more to honor thee,
United as one.
—Alice Adams Hilmer, Faculty Member, 1944-46
Fair Thetford
Fair Thetford! Fair hill where the hills circle roundWe are singing, loved Thetford, of thee,
For we love every inch of thy proud classic ground,’Tis no matter where’er we may be.
Thy mountains are blue in the bright sunset’s glow,E’en the sunsets of Italy pale.
Thy breezes bring courage wherever they blow,Fair Thetford, loved Thetford, all hail!
To stand with thy sons is to stand with the strong.’Tis to mingle with those of true worth.
Oh, thy sons and thy daughters are scattered afar,They have borne thy rich gifts through the earth.
But, home in our hearts, very truly we know,Know that some who are valiant for truth
Look back in the days of their proudest successTo the lessons thou gavest in youth.
We care not what others may think or may do,Oh, we care not what others may say,
For we know that our places are kept for us, there,Although far from the hilltop we stray.
But oft e’er we wake at the bird’s morning call,We’ll be dreaming, loved Thetford, of thee,
And still we will sing when the night’s shadows fall,Fair Thetford, loved Thetford, for me!
—Edith McDuffee, Class 1892
