4. Do not insta any unit c oser to a water eater t an atotal run of 10 feet (3 m) of piping between the outlet
f the conditioner and the inlet to the heater. Watereaters can sometimes over eat to t e extent t ey wi
transmit heat back down the cold pipe into the unitontrol valve.
Hot water can severely damage the conditioner. A 10-oot (3-m) tota pipe run, inc u ing en s, e ows, etc.,
is a reasonable distance to help prevent this possibility.
A positive way to prevent hot water owing from heatource to the conditioner, in the event of a negative
pressure situation, is to insta a c ec va ve in t e sowater piping from the conditioner. If a check valveis installed, make certain the water heating unit isqu ppe w t a proper y rate temperature an
pressure safety relief valve. Also, be certain thatlocal codes are not violated.
5. Do not locate unit where it or its connections(inc u ing t e rain an over ow ines) wi ever eubjected to room temperatures under 34oF (1oC) orver 120oF (49oC).
6. Do not install unit near acid or acid fumes.
7. The use of resin cleaners in an unvented enclosure isnot recommended.

Troubleshoot ngT e tec no ogy upon w ic t e contro va ve is ase iswell established and proven in service over many years. However, should a problem or question arise regardingthe operation of the system, the control can very easily be
service . For parts mentione , re er to exp o e views inthe Replacement Parts section of this manual.
IMPORTANT Service procedures that require the waterpressure to be removed from the system are marked with
a a er t e possi e cause. To remove water pressurefrom the system, put the bypass valve or three-valve
bypass into the bypass position and open the backwashrain va ve (t e sevent va ve ac rom t e contro ) wit
a screwdriver. Restore system water pressure when theservice work is completed.
The problems outlined below are the most commonoccurances of problems. If you are unable to solve yourpro em wit t is manua , contact t e manu acturer.
Va ve Trou es oot ng

D s nfect on of WaterConditionersThe materials of construction of the modern wateronditioner will not support bacterial growth, nor will
t ese materia s contaminate a water supp y. However, the normal conditions existing during shipping, storage
nd installation indicate the advisability of disinfectingcon itioner a er insta ation, e ore t e con itioner is
used to treat potable water. In addition, during normaluse, a conditioner may become fouled with organic maer
r in some cases wit acteria rom t e water supp y.
Thus every conditioner should be disinfected aerinsta ation, some wi require perio ic isin ection
uring their normal life, and in a few cases disinfectionwith every regeneration would be recommended.
Depending upon the conditions of use, the stylecon itioner, t e type o ion exc anger, an t e
isinfectant available, a choice can be made among thefollowing methods.
Application
These materials are satisfactory for use with polystyreneresins, synthetic gel zeolite, greensand and bentonites.
5.25% Sodium Hypochlorite
These solutions are available under trade names suchs C orox B eac *. I stronger so utions are use , suc as
those sold for commercial laundries, adjust the dosageccordingly.
