SOMER BENSON (Carly) is an ensemble member of Profiles Theatre where she most recently appeared as Sharla in Profiles’

Jeff Award-winning production of KILLER JOE by Tracy Letts. Prior to that, she was seen as Anna in Profiles’ World Premiere of GRACE-LAND by Ellen Fairey. Other recent Profiles’ roles include Lisa in the U.S.

Premiere of THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISSOCIA by Anthony Neilson, Diane in the Midwest Premiere of THE THUGS by Adam Bock and she appeared in “Coax” as part of the Midwest Premiere of THINGS WE SAID TODAY by Neil LaBute. DARRELL W. COX (Greg) is an ensemble member of Profiles Theatre where he most recently appeared as Cassius in

Profiles’ World Premiere of KID SISTER by Will Kern. Prior to that, he was seen as Bobby Gould in SPEED-THE-PLOW and John in OLEANNA, as part of the Mamet Repertory at American Theatre Company. Darrell received his fourth Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Principal Role for his performance as Joe Cooper in Profiles production of KILLER JOE by Tracy Letts. Other recent Profiles’ credits include the Midwest Premiere of THE MERCY SEAT by Neil LaBute, the World Premiere of GRACELAND by Ellen Fairey, and the Midwest Premiere of GREAT FALLS by Lee Blessing. Darrell has appeared at Steppenwolf in the World Premiere of MEN OF TORTUGA (where he originated the role of Taggart), the Midwest Premiere of ORANGE FLOWER WATER (which traveled to the Galway Arts Festival), and the World Premiere of WENDALL GREENE. He has also been seen at the Goodman in THE SHAWL and HOME as part of the David Mamet Festival, the Chicago Premiere of THE PEOPLE’S TEMPLE at American Theatre Company as Jim Jones, and the World Premiere of MARTIN FUREY’S SHOT at TimeLine, among others. He has won four Joseph Jefferson Awards for Principal Actor for his work in Profiles’ productions of KILLER JOE, BLACKBIRD, SOME VOICES, and EYE OF GOD. In addition, he has received two After Dark Awards for

Outstanding Performance for Profiles’ productions of POPCORN, and CARNAL KNOWLEDGE.

DARCI NALEPA (Steph) is thrilled to make her Profiles debut. Most recently she was seen as Amy in Griffin Theatre’s

production of COMPANY. Previous Chicago credits include: THE RING CYCLE at The Building Stage, A PERFECT WEDDING, ENCHANTED APRIL, STONE COLD DEAD SERIOUS, and THE DISTANCE FROM HERE with Circle Theatre, SIX YEARS at New Leaf Theatre, THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ESKIMOS and VENUS with The Mill and THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD with Noble Fool Theatre. Darci is a student at Black Box Acting Studio and a graduate of The School at Steppenwolf.

CHISTIAN STOLTE (Kent) ends a five-year hiatus from the stage with this production. He was last seen in

ROMANCE and NO ONE WILL BE IMMUNE, part of the Goodman Theatre’s David Mamet Festival. Other stage credits include ORANGE FLOWER WATER, SIDE MAN, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, DAVID COPPERFIELD and THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER at Steppenwolf Theatre, ART and PLAZA SUITE at Indiana Repertory Theatre, THERESE RAQUIN with Greasy Joan & Co., SPEED-THE-PLOW at Piven Theatre, and at A Red Orchid Theatre, CANUS LUNIS BALLOONIS, for which he won a Jeff Citation (as playwright) for Best New Work, and BORN GUILTY. NEIL LABUTE (Playwright) is a writer, director, filmmaker and playwright. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in dramatic writing from New York University and was the recipient of a literary fellowship to study at the Royal Court Theatre, London and also attended the Sundance Institute’s Playwrights Lab. His films include: IN THE COMPANY OF MEN (New York Critics’ Circle Award for Best First Feature and the Filmmak-ers’ Trophy at the Sundance Film Festival), YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS, NURSE BETTY, POS-SESSION, THE SHAPE OF THINGS (a film adaptation of his play by the same title), THE WICKER MAN, LAKEVIEW TERRACE and DEATH AT A FUNERAL. His plays include BASH: LATTER-DAY PLAYS, THE SHAPE OF THINGS, THE MERCY SEAT, THE DISTANCE FROM HERE, AUTOBAHN, FAT PIG, WRECKS, SOME GIRL(S), THIS IS HOW IT GOES and IN A DARK DARK HOUSE. REASONS TO BE PRETTY, produced by MCC The-ater and directed by Terry Kinney, premiered off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theater in June 2008. It received three Drama Desk Award nominations including Outstanding Play. It became Neil LaBute’s first play ever to be staged on Broadway when it opened in March 2009 at the Lyceum Theatre and was nominated for three 2009 Tony Awards, includ-ing Best Play. His newest play THE BREAK OF NOON, premiered at MCC in October 2010. LaBute is also the author of several fictional pieces that have been published in “The New York Times,” “The New York Times Magazine,” “Harper’s

Bazaar,” and “Playboy” among others. “Seconds of Pleasure,” a collection of his short stories, was published by Grove Atlantic.

RICK SNYDER (Director) is a Step-penwolf ensemble member. He re-turns to Profiles after directing their hit production of KILLER JOE which won Jeff Awards for Outstanding Production, Director and Actor. Most recently, he directed OLEANNA and SPEED-THE-PLOW at American Theatre Company. Other recent di-recting credits include MAURITIUS at Northlight Theatre, THE LION IN WINTER at Writers’ Theatre, ARISTOCRATS at Strawdog Theatre, ST. SCARLET at ATC, BUS STOP at Writers’ Theatre and THE ACTOR, JOLLY and THE DISAPPEARANCE OF THE JEWS at the Goodman The-atre. His directing credits at Steppen-wolf include ART, BETRAYAL, LAST OF THE BOYS, TAVERN STORY, THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE, ORANGE FLOWER WATER (which traveled to the Galway Arts Festi-val), and THE FALL TO EARTH. As an actor, Rick recently appeared in AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, THE UNMENTIONABLES, MAN FROM NEBRASKA and I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER at Steppenwolf. Some of his other Steppenwolf cred-its include WEDDING BAND, TIME OF YOUR LIFE, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST in London and on Broadway, SIDEMAN in Galway, Ireland, DAVID COPPER-FIELD, THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE, SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE, MOLLY SWEENEY, PICASSO AT THE LAPINE AGILE, the Tony Award-winning GRAPES OF WRATH, THE ROAD TO NIRVANA,

and A WALK IN THE WOODS. He has appeared at the Goodman Theatre in AS YOU LIKE IT, DOWN THE SHORE and as Ebenezer Scrooge in A CHRISTMAS CAROL. At Northlight Theatre he appeared in WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF and THE REAR COLUMN. Television credits include CRIME STORY, FIRST STEPS, LADY BLUE, LEGACY OF LIES, THE WOMAN WHO LOVED ELVIS, OVEREX-POSED, and guest starring roles on EARLY EDITION, PROFILER, CHI-CAGO HOPE, ANGEL STREET, THE UNTOUCHABLES, MISSING PER-SONS, and MIND OF THE MAR-RIED MAN. Rick has appeared in the films MEET THE APPLEGATES, THE TUSKEGEE AIRMEN, ALIEN NATION MILLENIUM, THE NET starring Sandra Bullock, WHITE-BOYS, THE HUMAN STAIN, SOUL SURVIVORS and as agent Frank Burrows in U.S. MARSHALS. Rick has taught acting classes at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, an advanced acting class at North-western University and DePaul and currently teaches Directing 1 at Co-lumbia College in Chicago. He has been a member of the Steppenwolf ensemble since 1983, an instructor for The School at Steppenwolf and Associate Artist at Steppenwolf for the last ten years.

JEREMY HERSH (Assistant Director) is the Literary Manager and an artistic associate at Profiles. As Literary Manager he was involved in the script development of Will Kern’s KID SISTER. He was a production assistant on Profiles’ productions of BODY AWARENESS, KILLER JOE, and GRACELAND. His play FROM THE WAIST DOWN was read at RADA in London, and his play TO SPITE YOUR FACE was performed at NYU. He attends NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he studies film.

COREY WEINBERG (Stage Manager) is thrilled to be working with Profiles Theatre again where he recently stage managed KID

SISTER, JAILBAIT and assistant stage managed their award-winning production of KILLER JOE. He is a recent graduate from Western Illinois University where he stage managed their productions of LONE STAR, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and MOON OVER BUFFALO. He was the director for university productions of PORTRAIT OF A MADONNA and THIS PROPERTY IN CONDEMNED, as well as assistant director for their production of PARADE. Other credits include assistant light designer for their production of LONG DAYS JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, Properties designer for INTIMATE APPAREL, and assistant stage manager for MOON OVER BUFFALO.

STEPHEN H. CARMODY (Set Design) is pleased to be work-ing with Profiles for the first time. His design credits include ALICE IN WONDERLAND for Chicago Playworks, KINGSVILLE for Stage Left Theatre, UNDER AMERICA for Mortar Theatre Company and WILD NIGHTS WITH EMILY for Caffeine Theatre. Assistant design credits include DETROIT for Steppenwolf and A LIFE for Northlight Theatre. Stephen continues to work in the scenic design studio of Todd Rosen-thal, Jack Magaw and Kevin Depinet where he has worked on draftings, renderings, and model work for such theaters as Steppenwolf, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Northlight The-atre, Writer’s Theatre, and Theatre at the Center. In 2010, Stephen interned with Tony Award winning designer Derek McLance in New York. He is a graduate from The Theatre School of DePaul University with a BFA in Scenic Design.

RICK JULIEN (Technical Director) is excited to return to Profiles having most recently served as Technical Director for KID SISTER and the original run of JAILBAIT. Previously, he was the Tech-nical Director for all of Village Play-ers Theatre’s Mainstage productions including YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU, LOST IN YONKERS and THE

MARRIAGE OF BETTE AND BOO and he served as carpenter for THE GLORI-OUS ONES, HELLO AGAIN and the Jeff Award Winning set for I AM MY OWN WIFE with The BoHo Theatre. He has been involved in theater and live productions for over 20 years.

JESS HARPENEAU (Lighting Design) has designed lights for many Profiles productions including KILLER JOE, winner of the 2010 Jeff Award for Outstanding Production, MEN OF TORTUGA and GRACE-LAND. Other favorite lighting design credits include THE MAMET REP: OLEANNA and SPEED-THE-PLOW at American Theater Company, SPIN with Theater Wit, RUBY WILDER at the NYC Fringe Festival with Not Waiting Productions, LOVERS with City Lit Theater, HERE WHERE IT’S SAFE with Stage Left Theater, DAYS OF LATE with Sinnerman Ensemble, CAMP FREEDOM! and FLU SEASON with Black Sheep Theater, C.S. Myron is a staff member for The Steppenwolf Costume Shop, and holds an M.F.A. in Costume Design and Technology from Ohio University.

JEFFREY LEVIN (Sound and Music Design) is thrilled to be working again with Profiles Theatre. He is a com-poser, sound designer, music direc-tor, and instructor living in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated with a BM in music composition from Columbia College Chicago and has studied under Dr. Marcos Balter, Dr. Patricia Morehead, Dr. Ilya Levinson, and Philip Seward, piano performance with Dennis Luxion, and conducting with Russel Vinnick. His most recent music and sound designs include KID SISTER and JAILBAIT at Profiles, LIKE A VIRGIN with Collaboraction, 2ND STORY with Serendipity Theatre Collective, and A CROWDED HOUSE with The State Theatre. Prior to that he wrote original music and sound design for MR. MARMALADE at Columbia College, as well as a myriad of concert works for chamber ensembles. He is currently working on original music for a production of AGAMEMNON for McGill University in Montreal. Jeff writes music for the concert stage, film/video and theater and has taught music theory and sightsinging/musi-cianship at Columbia College and the Merit School of Music.

Profiles Theatre is a not-for-profit professional theatre company now celebrating its 20th Anniversary Season of producing plays in Chicago. Founded in 1988 by five Eastern Illinois University alumni, the company was originally called Profiles Performance Ensemble. Profiles was in residence at the Wright College Theatre Building until 1990, when Artistic Director Joe Jahraus directed Profiles’ first play at the theatre’s current home (4147 N. Broadway) - a hit production of David Mamet’s SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO. The

following year, Associate Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox joined the ensemble. Darrell has a BFA in Theatre from Sam Houston State University in Texas and first performed with Profiles in their long-running production of Sam Shepard’s TRUE WEST. Profiles shortly thereafter became the resident company at the Broadway address, formerly known as Red Bones Theatre, and took over all management responsibilities for the 50-seat theatre.

The ensemble officially changed the name of the company and of the theatre space to Profiles Theatre in 1995. Today, Profiles still maintains a small, tightly knit ensemble whose other members include Eric Burgher (2003), Somer Benson (2008), Allison Torem (2009), Greg Yaeger (1994), Sal V. Armano (1993), and Wayne Karl (1990). Profiles Theatre’s primary goal is to bring new works to Chicago that illuminate the determination and resiliency of the human spirit. They produce World,

US and Midwest Premieres by promising new playwrights as well as established writers whose work has been seen around the globe. They take pride in carefully selecting scripts that combine integrity with risk, and are particularly drawn to playwrights with a unique narrative style and use of language. Profiles Theatre is committed to producing plays that tell a story in a captivating way, ones that will complement the ensemble and speak to their audience.
