The Woodford Group is South Africa’s largest independent vehicle rental company operating in a highly competitive industry. We compete with and rival international brands owned by listed companies, but manage to hold our own simply because we are continuously evolving and improving on the quality of our product. We service a wide and ever-growing client base spread across the private, public and corporate sector, and therein lies our differentiator – the Woodford Group is flexible, adaptable and always willing to go the extra kilometer for our clients. Our dedication to principles of service excellence, competitive pricing and superior vehicles has allowed us a platform to branch out into related fields, providing our clients with a total solution, regardless of their needs or specifications. The Woodford Group was founded in 1991 with the aim of providing a low-cost alternative in vehicle hire that placed value-for-money and ser-vice excellence first. Beginning as a two-vehicle company operating from Woodford Grove in Durban, the Woodford Group has grown into the largest independent car hire company in South Africa with a national footprint and a fleet of over 1500 vehicles across its three core divisions. Woodford has, however, always stayed true to its founding principles. Woodford has retained its promise to adapt to and cater for the clients – whether public, private or commercial – by continuing to offer the lowest rates and improving our service through technology and innova-tion. The Woodford Group has remained a family-owned company, is BEE compliant and has strong relationships with the tourism industry, gov-ernment divisions and the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA).

The Woodford Group is a homegrown company that has never been afraid to venture abroad and explore the use of innovative practices, tools and technologies. That means that as a local independent, Woodford is more in touch than anyone in our industry. Woodford offers all the services of a mul-tinational car rental agency, but the personal touch of a family-owned business that understands the needs of the market, and builds an offer-ing around them.

The Woodford Group’s fleet spans its three divisions and is diverse as it is functional. We operate with strict policies when it comes to the service standard levels of our vehicles – we buy only recognisable brands with established infrastructure across the country; we don’t import vehicles; and we always keep a close eye on the age of our vehicles, replacing when necessary to keep our fleet fresh and reliable.

• Procurement of vehicles based on a weighted scorecard which includes

emissions levels as one of the criteria

• Dissemination of fuel conserving information to drivers at pick up and

drop off points, and in vehicle

• Utilisation of our IT systems (Ctrack and Fuel Manger) to track the

utilisation of fuel, and take corrective measures for over utilisation

• Encouraging the efficient use of resources through minimizing of waste

and conservation, the re-use and recycling of resources wherever

possible for example through the procurement of vehicle maintenance

products that aid the reduction of harmful pollutants.

After substantial investment in our technology and back-end systems, we’ve placed an emphasis on building on our commitment to service excellence by introducing loyalty programmes and rewarding our clients with the best in benefits and products for choosing Woodford.

The next 12 months will also see Woodford expand its commercial fleet, while working towards providing warehousing facilities. Woodford Commercial has also obtained a petroleum licence that will allow the company to wholesale distribute fuel – adding a further cog to the holistic range of services we currently provide.

The next step in the Woodford journey sees us taking our offering cross-borders. We’re looking to expand into Southern Africa with the same value-for-money offering that has seen us grow into the largest independent vehicle hire company over the past 25 years.
