PROFICIENCY IN SHIPBOARD OXY-ACETYLENE WELDING, CUTTING, BRAZING AND SOLDERING WELDING (OAW) OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE The course provides basic principles of operation and applications of the OAW process. It covers discussion on the various equipment, tools, materials, method, techniques, procedure and safety practices involved in the application of manual gas welding, brazing and cutting to on-board repairs and fabrications. The course includes practical gas welding, cutting, soldering and brazing exercises for the setup and operation of the gas welding station and consumables to make fillet, butt weld/braze weld on MS sheet, B.I. pipe, G.I. pipes, cast iron and sea water pipes in all positions. The course aims to upgrade Seafarer’s knowledge and skills in the setup, operation of Gas welding station and application of consumable welding rods/brazing rods for manual gas welding, cutting, soldering and brazing of sea water pipes fillets in all position. The course is provided in two levels – Basic and Advanced. Basic level course deals with the training of ships staff with the basic set up and safe operation of onboard welding equipment for doing OAW. Trainees will be taught simple layout/marking and bench metal working to be able to make simple metal fabrications. Advanced level course deals with the training of experienced ships staff with the proper selection of onboard welding processes, equipment and consumables for on board welding repairs. The skills to be developed will lead to qualification and good practice. COURSE LIMITATIONS The maximum number of participants is 5 persons and minimum number of participants 3 person. Target group This welding course is designed to provide information and technical knowledge of the welding method used for ships maintenance and to provide the basic skills on how to make such welds with reference to industry standards. In particular, the course is intended to develop and prepare crew of seagoing ships in the use OAW equipment and consumables. DURATION OF THE TRAINING COURSE Duration of the TIG welding course is 5 days for each – Basic and Advanced levels. INCOME REQUIREMENTS TRAINING APPROACHES AND EQUIPMENT During training course theoretical lessons are given using Wilhelmsen ship’s service welding guidelines, practical tasks are conducted in Novikontas Maritime College laboratory with Wilhelmsen ship’s service welding equipment. Basic level course is open to on board personnel, inexperienced with onboard OAW and without formal training/certificate. Advanced level course is open to on board personnel with basic OAW training and onboard repair welding experience as good practice of pipes welding. COURSE CONTENTS 17a, Duntes Str.
