Professional Development for EDUCATORS Grades: Pre-K through 12 The goal of our School Services Center is to provide quality workshops, conferences, and other services to PreK-12 school districts in our region and across New Jersey. Through us, you will be able to access professional development on campus, as well as other locations. In addition, we can provide in-district services. As you plan for improving student achievement, we encourage you to consider the role we can play in assisting you with developing your annual plans for professional development. As part of our valued services, we will work side by side with your administration and staff to design the programs you desire. Our staff is practiced field educators who can assist your efforts in finding solutions to move forward. Creating Safe and Welcoming Schools for Transgender Students This workshop’s topics include: basic knowledge and understanding, of sexual orientation; dispelling stereotypes about transgender people; the social, legal, and medical aspects of the transition process; supporting transitioning students and managing difficult situations, including parental non-acceptance; the rights of transgender students including gender-specific facilities and sports; and strategies for educating parents. Date: Tuesday, July 16, 2019 Times: 8:00am to 1:30pm Cost: $149 Location: Connector Building Room 353 What Does Equity Really Mean AND Addressing 12 Legal Points to Start the School Year This two topic workshop for administrators will address equity issues such as: Equity is more than a QSAC check-off box… it goes beyond the legal manifestations and it needs to be embedded in the culture of the school/district. What are the legal guarantees to know? What are the challenges? What can be unintended consequences of the legal guarantees? Participants will also discuss the most important legal administrative obligations to put into place for the new school year. Administrators will share strengths, challenges and brainstorm ways to address them and create new opportunities.

In this hands-on workshop, we will create our own Google Classroom and explore the many Google applications, including Google Docs, Slides, Forms and Screencastify, that will increase the efficiency and output of PLCs, faculty meetings, and professional development. We will also discuss the SAMR Model, a framework for transforming teaching with technology, and how it can elevate instruction and engagement. Date: Tuesday, August 6, 2019 Times: 8:00am to 1:30pm Cost: $149 Location: Connector Building Room 353 McRel Evaluation Training Day for Administrators Have you hired new or do you have novice administrators in your district? Do you have an administrator that needs to refresh their McRel evaluation skills? This workshop is for them! Participants will explore the McRel framework and discuss the evaluation process. There will be examples and hands-on techniques as well as a question and answer session at the end of the workshop. Date: Wednesday, August 21, 2019 Times: 8:00am to 1:30pm Cost: $149 Location: Connector Building Room 353 Hands on Math and Literature in Grades K-2 This workshop will engage participants in activities that focus on New Jersey Math Standards. The presenter will introduce teachers to a children’s book, poem, or song, addressing a particular standard. Participants will receive an idea packet and a list of children’s books. The purpose of this workshop is to offer those developing co-teaching programs and refining the quality of their programs, research-based information on how to (a) create effective programs; (b) integrate quality instruction; (c) address sustainability; (d) conduct program evaluation; (e) discuss other issues common in co-teaching atmospheres. Dealing with Difficult Students This workshop will focus on designing and implementing individualized behavior improvement plans for helping students learn to behave independently and responsibly. The focus will be on identifying the factors that perpetuate any chronic misbehavior and then designing intervention strategies that “fit” the “function” of the problem. Participants will be presented with different techniques and strategies to use in the classroom to increase student motivation and decrease misbehavior. Date: Wednesday, October 2, 2019 Times: 8:00am to 1:30pm Cost: $149 Location: Washington Township School District, Board of Education Room Hands on Math and Literature in Grades 3-4 This workshop will engage participants in activities that focus on New Jersey Math Standards. McRel for Teachers Have you hired new teachers or do you have novice teachers in your district, or are you a new or novice teacher? This workshop is for you! The instructor will explore the McRel framework and discuss the evaluation process. There will be examples and hands-on techniques as well as a question and answer session at the end of the workshop. Date: Thursday, October 10, 2019 Times: 8:00am to 1:30pm Cost: $149 Location: Connector Building Room 353 Be Ready, Set and All in to Engage Your Students in Three-Dimensional Science Learning Participants will discuss how students can ask questions to drive their own learning, construct scientific explanations to promote understanding, and develop models to represent ideas. Educators attending this interactive and engaging workshop will:

realize how three-dimensional science teaching and learning is achieved

actualize a strategy through which their students make claims, support claims with evidence, construct explanations and engage in argumentation

recognize how and why students should develop, evaluate, and revise their own models

Maintaining Your Mentor Educator Program: A Collaboration Opportunity

This two part series will provide Mentor Educators with insight, direction, and resources for supporting the new teacher. This workshop will provide information on the assessment and implementation of phonemic awareness in your classroom. Participants will enjoy a variety of hands-on activities that can easily be incorporated into any reading program. Literature selections will be unitized to practice phonological concepts. Discussions on how students display communication patterns and behaviors and how to distinguish from intentional disruptive behaviors will take place. You will leave with activities, resources and practices that you can use in class the very next day. engagement, and student achievement. What does it look like when a lesson is

Participants will discuss how to foster a positive relationship with parents, various behaviors and how to conquer them, and meeting the needs of all students through music, stories and more. Date: Thursday, December 5, 2019 Time: 8:00am to 1:30pm Cost: $149 Location: Connector Building Room 353 P-E Equals E-L-A During this workshop, participants will look at different activities that can be used in the Physical Education classroom to reinforce Language Arts content. Participants will leave with fresh ideas that incorporate movement and allow for an improved kinesthetic learning connection. This workshop is appropriate for elementary health and physical education teachers. They will focus on the “three-way match” between present levels, goals, and modifications. Participants will learn to strengthen the clarity and overall effectiveness of their IEPs. Writing useful PLAAFPs, goals, and modifications, as well as transition plans will be discussed and modeled. This workshop is for elementary and secondary special education teachers. can implement to help keep creativity alive in the classroom.
