Presentation abstract:The latest business risk is getting hacked – a cybersecurity breach. Every type of organization and their functions are at risk: healthcare, government, military, education and financial – large and small businesses alike. While many are investing in the tech-nology for detecting and monitoring security issues, few organi-zation have an Incident Response Plan (IRP), or an enterprise plan for what happens when there is an incident.

This is not a technology project, though technology is a component. An IRP faces unique challenges due to the diversity of stakeholders and business functions and geographic locations, including several locations and various time zones. This presen-tation will explain the top 13 challenges faced by the project manager. In addition to a list of action items for determining what must be in the plan, attendees will hear how plans are put together and used. While there are some basic similarities to the continuity of business or disaster recovery, the IRP is an even greater challenge.

Key learnings:

• Why having a cybersecurity Incident Response Plan (IRP) must be part of ongoing operations for all organizations today

• Why a cybersecurity response plan is so challenging

• 13 points for the project manager to address

• Suggestions for components of any organization’s IRP

Speaker bio:JoAnn Becker is President of Achieving Results from Change, Inc. in Chicago, IL. JoAnn has extensive experience in continuity of business practices, including a global data center where she implemented a successful recovery plan. After the center was struck and damaged by lightning, all global data center services were back on line within 54 minutes, thanks to practices JoAnn applied.

Becker launched “Achieving Results from Change” to provide the added assistance to organizations when they periodically need more or new expertise when confronted with unprec-edented changes, and at rates of change too fast for their current resources to handle. She works with organizations to keep them fully running to deliver satisfactorily to their clients, patients and customers. Becker has been engaged in this line of work for more than 25 years and has a broad variety and depth of skills, as well as an expansive network of professionals to provide this assistance.

PMI Chicagoland Chapter Partners With INCOSE The PMI Chicagoland Professional Association Outreach program is proud to announce a new partnering relationship with the INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering) Chicago Chapter. PMI Chicagoland presented at the INCOSE eighth annual Great Lakes Regional Conference (GLRC) on October 10-11, 2014. The presentation provided an introduction to the PMI Chicagoland Chapter and its member-ship benefits. Introduced at this event was one of the Chapters 2014 PDDay speakers, Bakul Banerjee, Ph.D., PMP, who also presented at the GLRC.

The event was a shared effort to promote project manage-ment within the systems engineering discipline. There was an overwhelmingly positive response to the event and the Chapter’s contribution to its success. Paul White, INCOSE Chicagoland Chapter President & 8th Great Lakes Regional Conference Chair states “I believe the collaboration between INCOSE and PMI will be mutually beneficial. Systems engineers and program managers have a lot in common…I am excited about future opportunities to collaborate with PMI.”

Partnering with the local Chicago INCOSE chapter ben-efits PMI members who have a systems engineering career or interest. The partnership plans to provide a collaborative effort to integrate systems engineering and program manage-ment related events. Randy IIiff, INCOSE Charter Member and keynote speaker states “perhaps the most important realiza-tion from the joint project management (PM) and systems engineering (SE) interaction at this year’s GLRC is how strongly both professional communities are limited in practice by senior management understanding.” The best SE or PM in the world is only as good as the situation allows them to be, says IIiff.

Both Chicagoland Chapters seems eager and committed to bringing its members the best resources available for integra-tion in each of their respective fields. INCOSE has experienced a very solid relationship with PMI Global since 2011, and now that they have formed an alliance with the Chicago Chapter, both organizations have also initiated a new “Program Management/Systems Engineering (PM/SE) Integration Community” on LinkedIn Group site. As reported by PMI Global, the LinkedIn “…group is an effort to further facilitate discussion among individuals and organizations” (PMI Global Newsletter October 2014).
