Future Thrust on Research & Development

I personally believe that the future belongs to those who have the ability and initiative to do

something new in an integrated manner. Being a researcher in the field of Horticulture in Agricultural

Sciences, I will focus not only to reinforce importance of research in agriculture sciences but also

provided a coherent and comprehensive framework as per triple goals of higher education i.e. teaching/

learning, research and extension to support the process of rural development in India.

Education/research is a dynamic and a continuously evolving process. The university is not

merely an institution for instruction. Rather, the university campus is a play ground where the student-

players try to excel each other to be an integral part of the global environment. In order to achieve this,

the major thrust of the university education should be on:

Improvement of quality, and standards of higher education through renewal of the curriculum,

provision of appropriate infrastructure and use of modern technology as well as the introduction of

Credit System.

Mobilization of resources for the improvement of existing circumstances and for development.

Effective governance for the better results and reforms in the examination system.

Establishing links between the University and the Industry keeping in mind the socio-economic

goals of the community as well as the introduction of Credit System.

A multi-disciplinary and an inter-disciplinary approach and increased research.

An environment conducive for effective teaching, learning and R & D.

A faculty/ scientist with the requisite credentials for quality education/research and an all around

development of the student.

Induction of knowledge and its application.

Moreover, I would like to focus on the most important elements which should be there in

any university/research organization viz.,

The Governance system of the University/Institute.

Visionary leadership.

Education programmes, offerings and services.

Teaching/learning and research standards.

Education level of the University workforce.

Social responsibility.

Focus on the future.

Curriculum revisions/up-gradation.

Examination system.

Research and extension.

Student-teacher ratio/technical staff/scientist ratio.

Recruitments and retention of the faculty/scientist.

Option in course and career.

Working culture of the university campus/Institute.

Beautification of university/ Institute campus by developing greenery, landscape etc. through bio-

aesthetic planning.
