Production Diary - Jeremiah Kyle

10/01/14

Had meeting with Hannah and Tom. Discussed outline of story and personality traits for all characters. Chose animation style, basic production methodology and roles. Hannah to handle all concept, priority on character and BG designs. Tom to write script. Simon to keep production diary. Scheduled to discuss and refine characters and script on Tuesday 14th.

14/01/14

Reviewed first draft of script. Felt that more physical action was needed. Discussed period setting with Tony and Meg - feedback that it was inferior to modern setting. Gathered data from survey - opinion roughly split down the middle between period and modern. Decided Tom to write new script set in modern time, and compare comedic value with original script before making final decision. Hannah presented initial character designs - small changes to be made by Hannah to enhance personality traits e.g. Mary's outfit to be more provocative. Once final decision is made on setting, BG design and production will begin. Pre- and Production schedule created.

Hannah suggested that we go for Biblical period and that each episode is set in a different period, allowing for concept to make sense in a series format. All 3 of us preferred the idea of period rather than modern. Tom has written new draft of script with a physical gag to end on. Consensus approval. Hannah has adjusted character designs as discussed previously. Hannah to produce rough board based on script and create BG and set concept for Simon to start creating in 3D.

28/01/14

Walked Meg and Tony through latest draft of script and rough storyboard - generally positive reaction. Simon has completed block-out of 3D geometry for BG previz. Hannah to produce final board with precise framing to ensure continuity between Tom's and Simon's respective 2D and 3D layouts. Simon and Tom to also record their segments of dialogue, and Simon to edit and time these ready for the animatic.

04/02/14

Boards predominantly finished, all dialogue recorded. Hannah to continue refining final boards for animatic, ideally with digital colouring. Simon to complete dialogue edit and create animatic using boards.

11/02/14

Showed animatic to class - response was positive with the jokes seeming to hit their marks. Other than slight timing tweaks minimal critical feedback given so production will begin as planned. Tom and Hannah to start work on character creation and animation in Flash, and Simon to begin producing final environment in Maya.

21/02/14

Tom to ensure one or characters are completed in their entirety in order to teach Hannah how to animate in the Flash puppet style. Hannah to download lip-sync plugin for Flash. Simon to produce Final BG layouts for use in Flash.

26/02/14

Tom has built first puppet character and given a basic tutorial of how to animate it to Hannah. Tom to continue making puppets and Hannah to practice animating, with Skype calls for any necessary tutorials. Simon to continue developing 3D environment for BGs.

04/03/14

Tom has built 3 of 5 puppets. Tom and Hannah to begin meeting twice a week at university to animate. Simon to finish 3D background.

11/03/14

Simon to adjust positioning of chair in 3D background. Hannah and Tom have started animating and will continue to do so. Simon to animate final shot in 3D space with camera and locusts.

18/03/14

Hannah and Tom continue animating with an aim to complete as much as possible for presentation the following week. Simon to create 3D logo for intro sequence.

25/03/14

All met to edit current cut together for presentation. Intro sequence and approx half animation complete. Showed this version at presentation and received feedback.

31/03/14

Easter break begins. Tom and Hannah to complete all animation for deadline of 20th April in order for Simon to produce final composite. Hannah to finalise production portfolio and make available. Simon to make production diary available.

20/04/14

Simon receives all files and creates final cut for submission.
