ProductXchange

A system for contractors and suppliers to create, manage, transfer and use structured information describing the properties of everything that goes into a building. ProductXchange handles any documentation required for the materials and components that is used in a building. Information related to performance, environmental capabilities (e.g. BREEAM), technical capabilities (e.g. ENE) etc. can be included in this general platform for all documentation exchange needed in a building project.ProductXchange is supported by the international trade associations in the construction industry; European Construction Industry Federation - FIEC, International Union of Painting Contractors- UNIEP and The International Union of Roofing and Plumbing Contractors - GCI-UICP.ProductXchange works at a European level and companies will be able to add/edit their own regional product data. The digital information structures that serve the construction industry are on the brink of going through a revolution. Open, industry-wide standards are established and the industry is eager to catch up: the “Building Smart Data Dictionary” (bSDD) and “Building Information Models” (BIM); the Building Smart International (BSI) standards “Industry Foundation Classes” (IFC) and “Information Delivery Manual” (IDM). Together IFC, bSDD and IDM enable open standard-based exchange of building model data.

These standards enable all players to exchange information, be it simple materials information or complex building models. Demand for such structured content, as well as integrated user applications using the new standards, is growing extremely fast. In addition, legislation is pushing the usage by demanding information compliance for a growing number of materials and components that goes into a building. Only by using the new open standards the industry will be able to comply.

Open, industry-wide standards are being established in the construction business, radically transforming the industry’s ability to use information technology.The Building Smart Data Dictionary (bSDD) is a shared system for identifying and validating names of the components and properties used in Building Information Models (BIM) and works in conjunctions with the core Building Smart International (BSI) standards: IFC and IDM. Together IFC, bSDD and IDM enable open standard-based exchange of building model data.

Legislation is pushing the usage by demanding information compliance for a growing number of materials and components that goes into a building. Only by using the new open standards the industry will be able to comply. Today there is an enormous loss of data when contractors start building; they invite partners that install components, products or other elements that are very difficult to track. There is weak knowledge of what is installed, and if installed elements meet the technical-, environmental- or legal standards defined (described by architects, engineers etc. on behalf of a client).

CoBuilder’s new offerings solve this problem. In 2015-16 coBuilder will launch a number of tools based on the standards IFC and bSDD. We are developing web-based services for creating Open BIM product templates, tools for construction companies, and Facility Management products.
