ZENBY YORK CONTRACT
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF?I’ve routinely been described as a gentle swirl design … reminiscent of ocean waves.
WHAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL?I’m an environmentally responsible and alluring alternative to vinyl wall covering.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT?I’m part of the first collection bearing York’s Eco-Décor logo.
DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO?Bridging the gap between commercial vinyl wall coverings and residential wallpaper.
WHERE DO YOU FEEL MOST AT HOME?In any décor that’s inspired by nature.
NAME Zen
BIRTHPL ACEI’m made in the U.S.A.
PARENTSCLD Pure and York Contract Wallcoverings.
ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINTI’m glad you asked; I’m non-polluting and made with water-based, low-VOC ink on a substrate of paper pulp from managed forests.
FAVORITE COLORSMy absolute “fave” is gold metallic on red (which I’m donning here). But I also look fabulous in gold metallic on bronze; cream on off-white; white on beige; and lavender on champagne.

Patterns You’ll Adore
The outdoor world offers a vivid
landscape in summer with trailing
flowers, canopies of blossoms, fireworks,
awning stripes and more. Patterns offer
a world of possibilities inside your
house, too. Wallpaper a whole room, a
single wall, or, if you’re unsure, frame
large sections of wallpaper and hang
them in a foyer or hallway. Toss a
striped rug or two on top of neutral
carpet. Unfurl a jacquard-woven plastic
waterproof rug from the back door
to the kitchen sink.

Florals are Gaining Ground in Both Fashion and Home Original article:

Harrison and Talisman wallpaper by Ronald Redding Designs
It was clear that a bloom boom was on the
way when Sarah Jessica Parker and
high-profile editors, including InStyle
fashion director Cindy Weber-Cleary,
wore florals to the Council of Fashion
Designers of America awards a few weeks
ago. This is not a “Steel Magnolias”-era
revival. For an of-the-moment look, try
abstract, blurred or — at the other extreme
— graphic or black-and-white motifs. Add a
tough edge with studded sandals, leather
or denim. For the CFDA event,
Weber-Cleary, who is in her 50s and meets
or exceeds the fashion editor quota of
black, wore what she describes as a
“blownout computer floral” dress by
Behnaz Sarafpour. “It was pink and yellow
and a crazy print, but it was a very modern
floral, as opposed to a sweet one, which is
why I felt I could get away with it.” Past a
girlish age, she said, “you don’t want that
baby cutesy daisy print.” But other
so-called rules are silly, she said, including
the idea that larger women should
avoid large prints. “Prints can be
the most forgiving thing because
they keep your eye moving,” she
said, “rather than solid black that
keeps you looking at the outline.”
Give us liberty and give us depth:
“Florals are perennial, they’re
always back for spring in one way
or another,” said Weber-Cleary.
“The Liberty floral print has had a
real pervasive influence. It’s all
over the place, everywhere from
the Gap up to the designer level.”
J. Crew’s pocket cardigan backs up
a crisp cotton vintage-inspired
Liberty print with soft cotton knit,
for a mixed texture that also
resonates this summer.
Cost: $110; J. Crew stores, 800-562-0258
Put the petal to the metal: Florals for
interiors can conjure up formal living
rooms that predate Suzanne Sugarbaker in
“Designing Women.” But a single floral
touch, contrasted with a harder edge, can
be the height of sophistication, as in this
corsage vintage brass lamp by Laura Kirar
for Arteriors Home, with a vintage brass
oval metal shade.
Cost: $1,199; arteriorshome.com
No shrinking violets: Swimwear always
provides safe harbor for oversize or
tropical prints, and Carlos Falchi’s new
Rio collection with the Avon brand Mark
produces a couple of fabulous and
affordable ones, including the one on this
Brazilian bikini with a surprisingly
flattering cut.
Cost: $22 each piece; meetmark.com
Perennial pleaser: A gem for all seasons,
this Miriam Haskell necklace is made of
Russian gold-plated filigrees hand-wired

glass pearls with a braided chain strand.
It’s signed by Haskell.
Cost: $2,000; Miriamhaskell.com
The bold and the bountiful: Florals add a
pop of color that homeowners find easy to
live with, says Gina Shaw, vice president of
new product development for York
Wallcoverings. Some are soft, painterly
blooms while others are more stylized or
appear against boldly colored backgrounds
for dramatic effect.

Homeowners can have fun with ‘off-the-wall’ wallcoverings Cleveland Plain Dealer

Technology has entered all aspects of our
lives, even wallcoverings. Today it is
possible to buy wallcovering that is
magnetic, allowing a homeowner to hang
frameless prints or posters on the wall
with just magnets. Another kind of
wallpaper is UV-sensitive. It changes its
appearance depending upon the amount
of sunlight. Laser cutouts and multiple-
layered wallpapers are also being
introduced.
For the most part, the new off-the-wall,
on-the-wall paper is definitely a case of less
is more. An interior room papered
entirely in a dark “tree bark” would
probably be overwhelming. But a
powerful accent wall is an instant way to
change the entire look of a room and it
catches the eyes of buyers.
Technology has also allowed
designers and manufacturers
to add textures and elements
that were never used before.
We used to think that grass
cloth, leather-look-alike vinyl
and cork were exotic. Now
manufacturers are adding
sand, real leaves, fiber, seeds,
and other items to
wallcovering that not
only stays in tact but
is also washabale.
“People got away from
wallcovering with big
prints,” said Lisa Aiken,
owner of LMA Interior
Design in Hudson. “But
now there is great textured wallpaper
that can even be used in bathrooms.”
Aiken offers clients many choices of
wallcovering, including designs by York
Wallcoverings, a leader in textured and
specialty selections. The company’s
Vintage Jewel Collection includes patterns
that can stand alone or can be enhanced
with “Wall Jewels.” The Swarovski crystals
are sold separately, and homeowners can
incorporate as many as they want into
patterns that include Christie’s Trellis and
Iron Gate Trellis.
Ronald Redding, York Wallcoverings’ vice
president of design, has been a pioneer in
special effects. Redding has created ways
to mix metallic glitter into glass for “a
subtle sparkle.” He also layers metallic ink
over repurposed sand “to create a
dimensional quality that’s reminiscent
of authentic tin ceilings.”
Homeowners are still embracing
nature-inspired interior design, and York
Wallcoverings offers a number of fall
patterns that allow leaves and branches to
grow on your walls. The Aspen Leaf design
uses an oversized but subtle leaf to give a
room a perfectly soothing and airy feeling.
The washable, strippable, raised pattern is
suitable in traditional and contemporary
settings.
Allen-Kennedy Design of Fairview Park
also incorporates York Wallcoverings
into its work, and many Sherwin-
Williams stores in Northeast Ohio
carry the product. York Wallcoverings
is America’s oldest and largest
wallcovering manufacturer.

Add a little bling in some unusual waysThe Times-Picayune

Notices about new products come my way
virtually every week.
Some contain little that’s truly new: a
vacuum that’s now available in another
color. Others are useful but not very
exciting: new adhesives or coffee pots.
Others never even should have been sent
to New Orleans. Do you really want to
know the latest ways to seal your
nonexistent basement, or about new snow
blowers?
But every now and then, a few
wonderfully unusual examples rise to the
top. The ones I’ll tell you about this week
are perfectly usable, although arguably
practical, and collectively could add bling
to a wide range of home and garden
spaces.
Here, though, they’re just an upscale,
upsize take on Mardi Gras throws that’s
designed to stay in place year-round. Made
of stainless steel beads threaded on marine
line and finished with marine hardware,
they’re made to hold up even in our damp
climes.
Choose between long and short beads
-- just like at Mardi Gras -- to fit your
favorite tree. Send its diameter
measurement to the Tree Jewelry folks,
and then choose from the styles offered on
their website, www.treejewelry.net.
They’ll create a one-of-a-kind bangle in the
right dimensions to fit your needs. The
California company also offers some styles
that feature faux jewels handcrafted from
high-density sculpting foam, hand-tinted
with all-weather paints and then given a
protective coating.
Prices range from $295 to $2,000. Allow
six to eight weeks for delivery.
High-design bling: Aimed at those who
love the “subtle glow of candlelight or the
flicker of light in a mirror, “ York
Wallcoverings designers give us some truly
lovely wallpaper designs punctuated with
Swarovski crystals.
They offer “patterns that lend themselves
to a little sparkle -- the center of a
medallion, a delicate flower petal -- and
their less-is-more approach with the
crystals renders their radiance as endlessly
mesmerizing as a glittering jewel.” Cost is
$70 per roll.
Or, you can get creative with Wall Jewels,
Swarovski crystals sold separately to put
where you want, although the website
photos (www.yorkwall.com) show them on
various York patterns.
Very elegant, very formal.

When it comes to kids’ rooms, the space
amounts to much more than four walls
with a bed. We’re talking about bedrooms
that are designed to stir up sweet dreams
of beautiful butterfly gardens, sports
arenas, and enchanted forests filled with
lots of friendly animals. Of course, be
prepared for your future astronaut,
princess, or firefighter’s interests to
change. We suggest purchasing furniture
that can last and transform to fit different
needs, for example, a crib that converts
into a full-size bed. We’ve also gathered
collection of adorable accessories that
accompany these precious pieces.

“When decorating with ‘wall pops’ and
‘wall decals,’ children can constantly
rearrange their rooms, since the decals are
repositionable. As interests changes with
age, they can easily change the theme of
their rooms,” says Larry Miller, Owner,
M.A. Baskind. Right now, he says kids are
loving animal prints, sports motifs, and
nature and floral-themed wallpaper.
SAFTEY FIRST
–Invest in pieces that are durable and well
made — children are generally not easy on
furniture.
–Get ‘No Tip Kits,’ especially for larger
and taller items, which mount between
the wall and furniture.
–Old, drop-side cribs do not comply with
current safety standards. Invest in a new,
convertible crib with a stationary front.

Sky’s the limit for nursery walls
When it comes to options for decorating
your nursery walls, the sky’s the limit — or
at least the ceiling is. Parents paint, use
wallpaper, apply stickers and/or create
murals.
Safe Paint
If you decide to paint, choose a product
that limits the amount of VOCs released.
VOC stands for “volatile organic
compounds.” In paint, these take the
form of vapors emitted while it is being
applied and even after it has dried.
According to the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA), VOCs can
trigger eye, nose and throat irritations,
headaches, nausea and a loss of
coordination. Significant exposure may
even lead to problems with the kidneys,
liver and central nervous system.
Your baby’s developing body is delicate,
and susceptible to harmful toxins before
and after birth. Use safer paints to help
ensure a healthy environment in the
nursery.
You’ll find many low- and zero-VOC
products on the market, as well as natural
paints that use water instead of petroleum.
Some can only be ordered online, while
the following brands are widely sold in
stores:
Low-VOC Paints:
* Benjamin Moore Aura and ben
* Farrow & Ball Zero-VOC Paints:
* Benjamin Moore Natura
* Olympic Premium Paint
* Harmony by Sherwin-Williams
Eagle Paint & Wallpaper Co., Englewood
(eaglepaintandwallpaper.com) carries
low- and zero-VOC Benjamin Moore
paints and low-VOC Farrow & Ball paints.
Store associate Karen Lally said Benjamin
Moore paint is particularly user-friendly
—”With its new waterborne technology,
it’s easy to apply, has a quicker dry time,
requires fewer coats and has low-odor/
low-VOC, making it ideal for a child’s
room.”
Lally noted that Benjamin Moore also
makes non-toxic chalkboard paint. “Studio
Finishes Chalkboard Paint is a durable top
coat that turns any interior surface into a
chalkboard,” she said.
Original Murals
If you want more complex paint effects,
artists from Bellini Baby & Teen
Furniture in Paramus (bellini.com) can
transform an entire wall into a mural on
any theme.
“We have two artists on staff with a great
portfolio of work,” said store manager
Erik Lamb. “They paint the most amazing
jungle scenes and princess and castle
backgrounds.”
He said most people have just one or two
walls done but all the walls can be painted
if the customer chooses. “Our artists can
incorporate the paintings from the wall
onto the nursery furniture, so everything
is pulled together,” Lamb said.

Wallpaper
As an alternative, wallpaper the nursery.
“A basic vinyl-coated paper is relatively
easy to apply using the manufacturer’s
instructions, but with natural textiles
(grass cloth or silks), we recommend using
a professional paperhanger,” Lally said.
Many wallpaper designs today feature
kid-friendly nature and jungle themes.
“For girls, sophisticated styles such as
damasks or pretty stripes are popular,”
said Lally. “For boys, theme-oriented
papers such as sports or animals are
popular.”
Eagle Paint carries mid-priced children’s
wallpaper designs by York, Seabrook and
Brewster and higher-end products from
Anna French, Designers Guild, Osborne
and Little and Romo, Inc.
Stickers
Wall stickers can be removed and
repo-sitioned, making them a good choice
for parents who like to move the furniture
around and need the wall décor to move
with it. Stickers also can be easily removed
or changed as the child grows.
Popular nursery stickers include numbers,
letters and all types of animals. Other
themes include:
* Cartoon characters
* Glow-in-the-dark, celestial images
* Growth charts
* Chalk decals that can be written on and
wiped clean
“We carry a large assortment of
peel-and-stick, decal-style stickers, ranging
from children’s patterns of stripes and
circles to more formal scrolls and
damasks,” said Lally. “We also carry
murals in children’s styles.”
Mural manufacturers include Komar,
Ideal Décor and Environmental Graphics.
Wallies, and wallpaper companies such as
York and Brewster, offer stick-ons.
