* Calcium folinate is a source of folinic acid, which quickly converts to the most active form of folate. Folinic acid, as an active form of folic acid aids in overcoming common inherited polymorphisms that may impair folic acid availability. **Folic acid is essential pre-conceptionaly, however, its absorption is dependent on the presence of adequate levels of all B vitamins.

The pre-natal benefits of many of these ingredients are listed below:
> Folic acid
> Folic acid is required for healthy cellular division and early growth and development of the foetus and placenta.
> It is well recognised that folic acid supplementation by the mother, before pregnancy and during the1st trimester, may reduce the foetus’ risk of chromosomal abnormalities and neural tube defects of the brain or spinal cord, such as spina bifida and anencephaly.
> Folinic acid aids in overcoming common inherited polymorphisms that may impair folic acid availability.
> Research has shown that many people struggle to effectively metabolise folic acid into the active form. Mygen Health’s Fertility Formula provides folate in an activated form - as calcium folinate - which has been shown to raise plasma folate more efficiently than other forms of folic acid supplements.1
> Choline
> Choline is important for healthy cell membrane, structure and signalling, and may reduce miscarriage risk.
> Choline has been found to protect against neural tube defects,2 and is important for healthy genetic expression.
> Choline supplementation during pregnancy has been associated with improved offspring cognitive function.3
> Research is now highlighting the importance of choline during pregnancy and lactation, with many studies showing that pregnant women often have inadequate choline levels.4
> Chromium
> Chromium is necessary for proper insulin receptor functioning.
> Chromium supplements have been found to improve impaired glucose tolerance and reduce insulin levels in women diagnosed with gestational diabetes.5
> Chromium can be beneficial in maternal weight loss. Chromium may prevent issues associated with elevated blood sugar levels and insulin resistance which are commonly implicated in women who have been diagnosed with PCOS.
> Selenium
> Selenium is an important nutritional antioxidant and supports a healthy pregnancy. It plays a role in thyroid hormone production and supports the function of the immune system.
> The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for selenium increases during pregnancy and selenium is necessary for 1st trimester maternal health.9
Product & Technical InformationProfessional Reference Only.
> B vitamins
> B vitamins are necessary for normal hormone production and support the expression of healthy DNA.
> B12, like folic acid, plays a role in healthy cell replication making it important during pregnancy when foetal cells are quickly dividing and differentiating.
> Higher B12 and folic acid levels found in fluids surrounding reproductive organs positively correlate with successful pregnancy outcomes.
> A deficiency in B vitamins may result in impaired methylation and elevated homocysteine levels in pregnant women.
> Elevated homocysteine levels have been associated with pregnancy complications such as pre-eclampsia, miscarriage, placental abruption and abnormal foetal growth.7 B vitamins at therapeutic levels are necessary to combat these risks.
> The active forms of both B6 and folic acid have been included in Mygen Health’s Fertility Formula as they have been found to support healthy methylation processes that are required during pregnancy.8
> Vitamin D
> Vitamin D is necessary for healthy ovulation and uterine function.10
> Vitamin D has also been found to play a role in the synthesis and regulation of female hormones.
> During pregnancy, vitamin D is necessary for foetal development, birth weight, skeletal and teeth development and vital for healthy bone mineral density in the mother.11
> Vitamin D will also reduce the risk of premature delivery and pre-eclampsia.12
> Vitamin D deficiency is increasingly common in pregnant women.
> Vitamin C
> Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, found to be necessary for egg production and maturity.
> Vitamin C supplementation has been associated with increased fertility.
> Lipoic Acid
> Lipoic acid is a powerful antioxidant and mitochondrial nutrient that enhances the function of vitamins C and E and other antioxidants.
> Alpha lipoic acid can reduce oxidative damage generated through diet, age and toxic exposure.
> Alongside chromium, lipoic acid may help to maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
> Coenzyme Q10
> CoQ10, an antioxidant, is found in the mitochondria of the body’s cells where it plays an essential role in the production of cellular energy.
> Studies have suggested CoQ10 has a beneficial role in supporting early pregnancy health.13
> Further studies have confirmed a progressive increase in maternal CoQ10 requirements throughout the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.14
> CoQ10 can improve 3rd trimester maternal wellbeing and aid in the maintenance of cardiovascular, placental and blood vessel health of the mother.
> Iron
> After supplementation, iron has been shown to benefit both ovulation function and fertility.15
> Iron is a common deficiency in pregnant women.
> Mygen Health’s Fertility Formula provides iron as iron (II) glycinate allowing for improved absorption.
> Zinc
> Zinc is necessary for early cell division and embryonic development.
> Adequate levels of zinc are necessary for hormonal production, normal conception and the healthy development of the baby in utero.
> Zinc supplementation has been found to reduce the risk of premature delivery.16
> Mygen Health’s Fertility Formula provides zinc in the very bioavailable citrate form.
> Iodine
> Iodine is necessary for hormone production and critical for 1st trimester maternal health.17
> Iodine is necessary for normal neurological development of the foetus. The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has advised all pregnant and breast feeding women, and those considering pregnancy, to take a supplement containing 150mcg of iodine.18
> Iodine deficiency has been associated with reduced fertility, hypothyroidism, intellectual deficits in babies, miscarriage and impaired embryonic foetal development.19-21
> In Australia, iodine deficiency is becoming increasingly common, with up to 40% of children and pregnant and breastfeeding women being found to be iodine deficient.
> The World Health Organisation has now classified Australia as a mildly iodine deficient country.22
> Mygen Health’s Fertility Formula provides adequate levels of iodine to help reduce the risk of this common deficiency.
