Filament Winding Resin Composite Tooling Prepreg
Process Description Fibers in resin wound on a mold and the part cured Molds for composite parts fabricated from prepreg
Fabricated Parts Tanks, shafts, tubes, rods Composite Tooling
Prime Applications Driveshafts: cars, trucks, construction, helicopters, oil and gas drillingHigh strength tubes: structures, hydraulics, piping, spars, masts
New and replacement tooling made of conventional composite and metal (Invar)
Product 3MTM Matrix Resin 4833 3MTM Matrix Resin 140 FFortified Composite Tooling Prepreg Supplied by Tencate in North America
Differentiation 3M™ Matrix Resins can be used to fabricate filament wound cylindri-cal and tubular structures with enhanced performance over neat resins – e.g. higher stiffness, increased compression strength and lower weight. High performance carbon fiber driveshafts that can be made tougher, stronger, more durable and capable of higher torque than steel or aluminum.
Tooling made with 3M™ Matrix Resins have the significantly increased hardness and improved fracture toughness needed for increased life and improved productivity of composite tools. Lower exotherm and shrinkage during cure and cured resin CTE enable greater dimensional stability compared to traditional tooling resins
3M Advantage Filament wound structures with increased stiffness, compression strength, fracture toughness with lower weight.
Composite tooling with higher surface hardness compared to traditional composite epoxy tools. Potential for less repair and longer life than competitive prepreg tools.
