Nano-Clear’s excellent physical properties are a result (in part) of the high cross-link density. Nano-Clear penetrates, restores, enhances and extends the service life of newly painted or oxidized painted surfaces by 5-10 years. NCI also protects fiberglass, plastics, wood and concrete. NCIF has the same physical properties as NCI with the addition of a fluoropolymer, which results in a cured film with very low surface energy. This allows the coating to resist ice, paint (graffiti), chemicals (liquid and cured), oil/ grease, mineral deposits or build of any kind. Very hydrophobic. Before Aſter

    FEATURES/BENEFIT S One component formulation – no

mixing/metering Use on new paint or highly oxidized

painted and fiberglass surfaces Reduce maintenance cycles (pays for

PR ODUCT DESCRIPTION NCI (Nano-Clear Industrial) is a crystal clear, solvent borne, one component, moisture (humidity) cured, very

highly cross-linked (nano-structured) hybrid polyurethane/polyurea industrial nanocoating. Nano-Clear’s excellent physical properties are a result (in part) of the high cross-link density.

NCI is formulated to work with existing paint systems – not replace them – to protect against UV, corrosion, chemical attack and abrasion. NCI dramatically improves surface hardness, gloss and color.

This allows the coating to resist ice, paint (graffiti), chemicals (liquid and cured), oil/grease, mineral deposits or build of any kind. Very hydrophobic.

  • APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Consult with an Industrial Solutions USA representative for complete and detailed application instructions.

IMPORTANT: Please read the TDS and SDS for proper handling and safety instructions.

NCI/NCIF IS FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY.

General.Nano-Clear Industrial coating is a unique one-component clear coating with remarkable physical properties. The proper application procedure of Nano-Clear is important to achieve these physical properties.

Remember: Nano-Clear + poor preparation = poor adhesion = failure

Safety. Wear protective eye wear, respirator, skin protection and chemical resistant rubber gloves.

Environmental Conditions.Nano-Clear Industrial coating is formulated to cure and cross-link in the presence of humidity.

As a general rule, the higher the humidity results in a faster cure.

Higher humidity may reduce the flow and leveling of Nano-Clear (especially when combined with higher temperatures).

Improve flow and leveling in high humidity and high temperature environments by reducing the wet-on-wet coat time interval to 2-3 minutes (vs. 5-10 minutes).

Lower temperatures and lower humidity allow for greater flow and leveling.

Ensure the ambient air temperature (40F - 90F) and substrate temperature (40F - 90F) is a minimum of 5 degrees above the dew point.

Substrate Preparations.Paint Prior to sanding or abrading the substrate, clean substrate

thoroughly with detergent and/or solvent to remove contaminants (specifically wax, oil & grease) and debris then rinse and dry thoroughly.

If applying Nano-Clear on new paint, ensure the new paint is fully cured with no ongoing outgassing of solvents/VOCs.

Use a biodegradable and phosphate free sodium hydroxide type cleaner (like SuperClean) at the manufacturer’s recommended rates and a brush/sponge to clean the entire substrate that will receive the NCI/NCIF.

Solvents like acetone and MEK are effective at removing stubborn contaminants however test a small area of the substrate with the solvent first to ensure it can withstand the solvent being used.

Rinse well and commence sanding if required. High gloss surfaces or substrates that have been waxed must be sanded with 400 grit sand paper after cleaning to create a profile.

After sanding is completed, repeat the cleaning procedures above.

Then dry the substrate. The substrate must be dry. Used forced air (clean & dry compressed air or a leaf blower) to ensure all water is forced out of recesses and from under attachments.

Wood Nano-Clear industrial coating will penetrate and adhere to

    clean and dry wood surfaces.

Moisture content of the wood should be below 10%.

Depending on the species of wood, two or three wet-on-wet coats may be required in one or multiple application sessions – please consult your Nano-Clear representative.

  • Application.Airless Spray Equipment Tip Size: .017-.019” orifice (Graco 517/617 of 519/619) Pump: 30:1 minimum Pressure: 800psi (Recommend testing individual system

    for best pressure setting)

Use dedicated spray lines or thoroughly clean existing spray lines with acetone or MEK to remove previous coating in the lines.

HVLP/LVLP Spray Equipment Fluid Tip: Air Spray 1.3mm – 1.5mm Fluid Line: 3/8” Pressure Pot: 15-20psi Pressure at Gun: 29-30 psi. Adjust pressure first at the

compressor or in the pressure line then fine tune pressure at the gun.

Manual Application Equipment Use a paint pad or roller or brush (not foam) that can be

used with strong solvents or it will fall apart during use.

Use a paint pad or roller with a short nap (like Shure-Line Deck Painter Pad or PADCO Woven Floor Trim Pads).

Streaking may occur using a “wipe-on” technique. Do not overwork the coating while applying.

Only dispense the amount of product to be used in the current application session then re-seal the original container immediately to prevent material from initiating cure in the container. An inert gas blanket (such as nitrogen gas) should be sprayed into the container to maintain the quality of unused material.

Do not thin NCI/NCIF. Apply NCI/NCIF with a minimum of two wet-on-wet

applications. Allow 5 – 10 minutes between wet coats at 72F to allow for solvent evaporation.

    • Allowlesstimebetweencoatsifapplyinginhighertemperatures and higher humidity conditions.

Apply a wet coat to one section of the asset the size the applicator can cover in under 10 minutes (comfortably) going from left-to-right, top-to-bottom.

Then return to the beginning of that section and spray another wet-on-wet coat using a cross hatch method. After waiting the appropriate time interval.

Begin a new section and repeat the procedure. A third coat may be required if applying NCI/NCIF

to oxidized substrates in order to obtain a smooth, monolithic finish.

The target wet film thickness is 2-3 mils per wet coat (without sagging or runs).

The target dry film thickness is 1+ mils. Do not re-coat after 20 – 30 minutes of elapsed time in

moderate temperature and humidity conditions as this will result in uneven coating. In higher temperature and higher humidity conditions the re-coat window will less than 20-30 minutes.

Caution: Too high of a film build combined with high temperatures and high humidity will cause material to skin, trap gases and not fully cure.

Clean equipment immediately after use with acetone or MEK. Do not use water or alcohol.

Cure times with temperature of 72F @ 50% relative humidity: Tack free in approximately 30-40 minutes Handle in approximately 4 hours Dry (hard) in approximately 24 hours Allow 6 hours cure time before exposed to rain or snow. Higher the temperature and the higher the humidity the

    faster the cure time

  • Shelf Life: Material has a shelf life of 6 months after the date of

manufacture if properly stored unopened between 45F-72F (higher temperatures will reduce shelf life).

Shelf life after open – 2 weeks.

Close container immediately after dispensing material. Leaving the container open for extended periods of time will results in moisture contamination.

Use a gas blanket to preserve unused material whenever possible.
