Fisher A11 High-Performance Butterfly ValveThe Fisher A11 High-Performance Butterfly Valvemaintains tight shutoff, and can be specified for a widerange of pressure and temperature conditions, including cryogenic applications.
The A11 valve is available in either a wafer or asingle-flange design (single-flange only for CL600, 900,and 1500). A square or keyed shaft can combine with avariety of handlevers, handwheels, or pneumaticpiston diaphragm actuators. A splined shaft cancombine with a variety of spring-and-diaphragm orpneumatic piston actuators. These combinations helpmake the A11 valve a reliable, high-performancebutterfly valve for both throttling and on-offapplications in the process industries.
The A11 valve can be supplied with one of severaldynamic seals (figure 1) that can be used in a variety ofdemanding applications. With the appropriate sealselection and materials of construction, thepressure-assisted seal helps provide excellent shutoffagainst the full ASME class pressure range for the A11valve.
Features Shaft Versatility— This valve will meet your actuator
needs with a choice of square, keyed, or splinedshaft connections.
Excellent Shutoff Integrity—The pressure-assistedseal design provides tight shutoff and permits theuse of smaller, less expensive actuators inapplications requiring full ASME B16.34 shutoffcapabilities.
W9570-1
Excellent Emissions Capabilities— The optionalENVIRO-SEAL packing systems are designed withvery smooth shaft surfaces and live-loading toprovide improved sealing, guiding, and loadingforce transmission. The seal of the ENVIRO-SEALsystem can control emissions to below 100 ppm(parts per million).
Sour Service Capability— Trim and bolting materialsare available for applications involving sour liquidsand gases. These constructions comply with NACEMR0175-2002, MR0103, and MR0175 / ISO 15156.
High-Temperature/Cryogenic Capabilities—Optional valve constructions allow this valve tomeet both high-temperature and cryogenicapplications (see table 7 for cryogenic andhigh-temperature actuator configurations).
Easy Installation—The valve body self-centers on theline flange bolts as a fast, accurate means ofcentering the valve in the pipeline.

Features (continued) Reliable Flange Gasketing Surface—Seal retainer
screws are located so there is no interference withthe sealing function of either flat sheet or spiralwound line flange gaskets.
True Bidirectional Shutoff Performance—A featureof the valve design is that the torque necessary toopen and close the valve is the same regardless ofthe direction in which the differential pressure isapplied.
Ease of Maintenance—Interchangeability of all parts, including shafts and disks, simplifies service andreduces maintenance costs.
Standard SealConfigurations Standard Soft Seal (PTFE CL150 and 300, and ETFE
CL600, 900, and 1500)—A resilient dynamic sealwith an elastomeric back-up ring for low tomoderate temperature applications.
Metal Seal—This stainless steel seal is available forsevere service and high-temperature applications to704C (1300F) for NACE applications and 816C(1500F) for other applications.
NOVEX Seal—The NOVEX stainless steel seal isavailable for severe service, Cryogenic, andhigh-temperature applications to 816C (1500F).Available for CL150/150, 150, and 300, up to NPS 36 only.
Phoenix III Seal—This three-component,metal-and-polymeric seal is available for severeservice with low to moderate temperatureapplications.
High-Pressure Seal (CL600, 900, and 1500)—Thisrobust, stainless steel seal is available for severeservice, cryogenic, and high-temperatureapplications to 704C (1300F), for NACE, and forother applications to 816C (1500F).
Cryo-Tight Cryogenic Seal—This resilient dynamicseal is available with or without an aluminumback-up ring for low temperature applications.

InstallationPreferred valve orientation for the A11 valve is reverseflow direction. Reverse flow direction is into the side ofthe valve body opposite the retaining ring or into theshaft side of the disk.
For erosive and many severe service applications, valves with bidirectional seals can and should beinstalled with the shaft horizontal and in the forwardflow direction to prevent direct impingement of theprocess media on the seal, and to minimize theexposure of the shaft bearings to the process media.
The standard soft seal and the Phoenix III seal bothoffer bidirectional shutoff. Valves using either metal,NOVEX, or cryogenic seals are unidirectional and mustbe installed in the reverse flow orientation.
For assistance in selecting the appropriatecombination of actuator action and open valveposition, consult your Emerson Process Managementsales office.
Dimensions and weights for wafer-style andsingle-flange valves are shown in figures 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Pressure Drops
Pressure drop limits of any given valve are based onvalve body, and trim material limits. To find theappropriate pressure drop limitation, choose thedesired valve size and temperature range. Then search
table 17 for body limitations and tables 18, 19, 20, and21 for trim limitations. Information on limits forS31254, CW2M, M35-1 and other alloy constructionscan be obtained by contacting your Emerson ProcessManagement sales office. The lowest number from thetables is the appropriate limit. The tables for both trimand body limits must be consulted.
