SPG and S27 Patent Glazing 4.1.ii 03.99
Scope This specification covers the materials, sections and accessories generally available from stock through the Senior Aluminium Systems plc. It illustrates typical recommendations for the fabrication of our SPG and S27 Patent Glazing. The sections and fittings described in this manual are not definitive or exclusive in application but show typical assemblies using standard materials and accessories. These details are suitable for installations in both new buildings and refurbishments. Construction SPG and S27 Patent Glazing Sections, whether single or double-glazed, are typically installed using mechanical methods and butt joints Assembly involves the initial installation of the main roofing bars onto a structural supporting frame, followed by the added use of horizontal purlin bars or joint came sections. SPG sections operate on a beaded, Tee format base (stalk up) and use clamped purlin bars. S27 sections are designed on a cruciform base (stalk down) and use screw on pressure caps to the main bars with ‘H’ section joint cames for purling jointing of glass. A proprietary sealant to protect against water entry should always be used on all metal-to-metal joints during installation. Extruded brackets are used to secure the main bars to the structure and a draught excluder for the eaves position is include as part of the system. All sections are designed for glass installation only. At all times good working practices should be employed. Accessories All accessories shown in this manual are deemed to be both typical, and suitable for, the installations intended. They are generally standard items, which carry with them the manufacturers guarantees and are components, which are held in stock at each of our service centres. Machinery Requirement Senior Aluminium Systems’ Patent Glazing Systems are designed to facilitate installation with nominal equipment. It is however advisable that a reasonable approach be made to available machinery and it’s use to ensure a good quality of finished work with any aluminium product.
Materials Extruded aluminium is Aluminium Alloy 6063.T6 to BS 1474, 1987 Anodising: i) Natural (Silver) anodised to BS3987, 1991. and ii) Anolok Bronze Colour 547 anodised to BS3987, 1991. Anodising is to a minimum of 25 microns (AA25). Powder Coating is to BS6496, 1984. Gasketry is manufactured in accordance with BS3734 and BS7412, cat A. Glazing Note: All Glazing should be carried out to the recommendations of B.S.6262. Single glazing sections are designed to take glass thicknesses of 6mm and 6.4mm. Each pane of glass may be individually inserted into its’ own fully rebated and prepared opening. Purpose designed gasket seals are used on all sections to both the outside and the inside for aesthetic appearance from the visible surfaces of the installation. Glass is retained in position by either beads or by pressure plates screwed into extruded screw ports in the top of the main bars. Cover caps may be used to conceal the main bar fixing screws. For double glazing a standard unit thickness of 24mm has been adopted as the standard. Double glazing is carried out in the same manner as single glazing. Site Installation Site fixing of finished frames should take into account all applicable standards with regard to both the method employed and safe working practices. Frame fixings should be suitable for the purpose given site conditions and materials into which the installation is to be made. If in doubt, please check with your fixings supplier regarding type and method to be used. It should be remembered that Patent Glazing Bars may be used in Vertical Applications as well as Sloping Roof Applications.
