APPLICATION EXAMPLE:

This application demonstrates the use of Audia, with daVinci control software, in a sports stadium sound and security system. The system uses one AudiaFLEX 12x8 NC (twelve inputs, eight outputs, non-CobraNet) with daVinci providing control via network connected computers/touch-screens. An example system design, as created using Audia software, is shown at the top of the facing page. In the system design, the twelve inputs consist of: an emergency message/signal; a paging microphone; a wireless microphone for presentations; a music source; and eight ambient sensing microphones. The music, wireless, and page signals are each connected to an 8-channel Level block, for distribution and control of these signals into eight separate zones. From there, an array of twenty-four Duckers is used to establish override priorities (wireless-over-music, page-over-wireless, emergency-over-page). Then, parametric equalization and peak metering are provided for each zone output. Finally, 'ambient sensing' microphones, positioned in each zone to pick up crowd noise, feed Ambient Noise Compensator blocks. This allows individual zone output levels to automatically compensate for variations in the crowd noise. A security camera is also located in each zone. Signals from these eight cameras are fed to an RS-232 controllable video switcher, which receives command strings from the AudiaFLEX Serial Port. In the system design, a Command String block is programmed with the appropriate video switcher commands. Presets and supporting logic circuitry allow camera selection to be manual or via automatic scanning. Custom control screens have been created for the system, using daVinci software. These control screens are stored in the AudiaFLEX, where they can then be accessed from multiple computers/touch-screens on a common Ethernet network. Access to control screens is also via the daVinci software, which does not allow re-configuration or manipulation of the actual AudiaFLEX system design. Passwords and User Access Levels have been established as well, to prevent tampering and to restrict certain usage. As indicated on the Intro screen (bottom of facing page), graphics can be imported into daVinci for use as backgrounds or as textures for individual controls. Hot-Spots can be drawn over specific areas of a graphic element, and assigned control functions. A control file can contain multiple pages of operation (screens). This system utilizes five pages of operation (Intro, Paging, Wireless, Music, Cameras), and a dedicated control has been placed at the top of the screen for navigation amongst those pages. Paging and Cameras screens are shown on the back page. The Paging screen lets the user initiate an Emergency all-call (un-mute Emerg. input), turn paging Mic On (un-mute Paging input), Page All or Clear page routing (recall Level Control presets), and route paging to individual zones (un-mute Level Control channels). Faders have been provided, with a restricted range, for minor adjustment of paging levels to the individual zones (Level Control channels). Meters allow the user to monitor signal levels at the respective zone outputs. Wireless and Music screens are similar in function to the Paging screen. The Cameras screen provides selection and indication of which security camera is being monitored. Auto Scan recalls a preset that initiates a 5-second sequential camera selection (additional presets). Manual recalls a preset that disables Auto Scan. Manual selections recall the same presets as Auto Scan, but as static selections made using the numbered buttons located in the corresponding zones. The adjacent LEDs indicate camera selection in either Auto Scan or Manual modes. To view these screens in color, you may download a PDF version of this application bulletin from: www.biamp.com (located under Articles & Applications > Recreation > Stadium).
