PRODUCT ALERT! The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an expanded warning September 9 about storing medicine in Becton-Dickinson (BD) syringes. • The stopper on plungers in some BD syringes may interact with some medicines and reduce their effectiveness. • This problem occurs only when medicine is stored in BD syringes for more than 24 hours. Check your supplies of pre-filled and empty syringes to see if they include BD syringes. These syringes have BD printed on the barrel of the syringe. PHS recommends you Stop using BD syringes when you pre-fill syringes at home with medicine. Stop using BD syringes you or a pharmacy pre-filled more than 24 hours before their intended use. Contact the pharmacy or PHS for information on what to do. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an expanded warning September 9 about storing medicine in Becton-Dickinson (BD) syringes.

• The stopper on plungers in some BD syringes may interact with some medicines and reduce their effectiveness.

• This problem occurs only when medicine is stored in BD syringes for more than 24 hours.

Check your supplies of pre-filled and empty syringes to see if they include BD syringes. These syringes have BD printed on the barrel of the syringe.

PHS recommends you • Stop using BD syringes when you pre-fill syringes at home with medicine.• Stop using BD syringes you or a pharmacy pre-filled more than 24 hours before their intended use.

Contact the pharmacy or PHS for information on what to do.
