The product needs Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6 or higher for the hosting Eclipse environment when you usethe Eclipse plug-in installer to install the product into your Eclipse IDE.

NOTEThe full product installers will install a proper JRE version for the Processor Expert fori.MX processors product but will not update your system JRE.

3 InstallationProcessor Expert for i.MX Processors is an Eclipse based product.

Eclipse stores your projects in a folder called workspace. This folder needs to be set up in any folder that you can fullyaccess. For example, C:\Profiles\<username> \workspace on Windows; /home/ <username>/ workspace on Linux.

The following product installers are available:

• Full Product Installers - Full product is an Eclipse based IDE)• Eclipse Plug-in installer - Plug-in which can be installed into your Eclipse IDE

3.1 Full product installation

Full Product is an Eclipse 4.3 based IDE containing the Processor Expert for i.MX Processors product. The full productinstaller is available as:

• Executable installer for Windows 32-bit or 64-bit; the full product for Windows is based on 32-bit Eclipse 4.3).• .TAR.GZ archive for Linux 64-bit; the full product for Linux is based on 64-bit Eclipse 4.3.

If you want to use Procesor Expert for i.MX processors on another system configurations then use the plug-in installer.

3.1.1 Executable installer for Windows

1. Run PEx_for_i.MX_<version>.exe.The Processor Expert for i.MX Setup initiates.

Review the licence agreement before processing.3. Click the I accept the terms of the License Agreement option.4. Click Next.

The Choose Components page appears.

5. Select the components you want to unstall and uncheck the components you do not want to install.

The Ready to Install the Program page appears.

NOTEIf you want to review or change any of your installation settings, click Back. ClickCancel to exit the wizard.

9. Click Install.The setup begins the installation.

The installer prompts you when the Processor Expert for i.MX Processors installation completes.

10. Click the Finish button to close and exit the setup wizard.11. To start using Processor Expert for i.MX Processors software, navigate to the <product installation folder>\eclipse\

folder and run eclipse.exe.

3.1.2 .TAR.GZ archive for Linux

1. Unpack the PEx_for_i.MX_<version>_package_Linux_x64.tar.gz archive into a proper location.

NOTEIt is not necessary to unpack the archive in the user’s home location, but it helpsprevent problems with updating the product. If you install the product into anadmin location, you will need admin permissions (with sudo) to install any productupdate.

2. To start using Processor Expert for i.MX Processors software, navigate to the <unpacked archive location>\eclipse\folder and run eclipse.exe.

3.2 Eclipse plug-in installer

Eclipse plug-in installer can be used to install the product into a supported Eclipse version on Windows or Linux.

NOTEIt is necessary to install the FSL Eclipse Updater first before installing the ProcessorExpert for i.MX Processors. If you already installed the FSL updater into your EclipseIDE then you can skip the Installation of the FSL Eclipse Updater section and proceed tothe Installation of Processor Expert for i.MX Processors update section.

NOTEThe FSL Eclipse Updater is required to be installed into the Eclipse environment for firsttime only. Once installed, it is not required to install it again in next updates.

Installation of the FSL Eclipse Updater1. Unzip the PEx_for_i.MX_<version>_Eclipse_Plugin_Installer_UnzipMe.zip archive.2. Navigate to eclipse.exe and run the Eclipse environment.

The Workbench window appears.

3. Select Help > Install New Software from the IDE menu bar.

The Available Software dialog appears.

4. Click Add.The Add Repository dialog appears.

Figure 9. Available Software dialog5. Type a name for the update site in the Name text box. It is recommended to include the product version in the site

name. For example, PEx iMX 1.0 FSL Updater.

NOTEUse a unique name for the Work with repository. If you have any previousProcessor Expert for i.MX Processors version already installed, do not duplicate therepository name.

6. To add a repository archive, click Archive.7. Specify the location of the updater installation package in the the Location text box. You can find the PEx iMX 1.0

FSL Updater Eclipse SW archive site in a set of files you got from the installation archive file in step 1.8. Click OK.

The Processor Expert for i.MX Processors package appears in the Available Software screen.

9. Select the Eclipse Freescale Solutions category .10. Click Next.

The Install Details dialog appears.

11. Review the items you want to install and click Next.

The Review Licenses dialog appears.

12. Review the license.13. If you agree to the license, select the option I accept the terms of the license agreement.

NOTEIf you do not accept the terms of the license agreement, The installer will not letyou proceed with the update.

14. Click Finish to complete the installation.15. Eclipse will prompt you to restart the IDE. Restart your Eclipse, if you already have it open, for changes to take effect.
