THE SPECIAL STUDY PERMITThe Special Study Permit (SSP) is issued by the Philippine Bureau of Immigration for foreigners who wish to engage in short-term, non-degree courses in the Philippines (i.e. language proficiency, computer courses). It is only issued in the Philippines. Eligible nationals who plan to enroll in non-degree courses that last for less than one (1) year may first apply for a tourist visa at the Philippine Embassy. Upon arrival in the Philippines, the student should apply for a SSP at the Bureau of Immigration’s Student Desk.

Minimum entry requirements for the Special Study Permit: • Passport valid for six (6) months from the date of intended entry to the Philippines;• Duly notarized letter from the applicant requesting the issuance of the permit;• Duly accomplished and notarized application form;• Certificate of acceptance issued by the learning institutions duly accredited by the

Bureau of Immigration;• Photocopy of the applicant´s passport reflecting its data page, entry stamp and

authorized stay of not less than 20 days from the date of filing;• Bureau of Immigration Clearance Certificate.

For exchange professors, fellows, students, scholars, participants, volunteers, and social workers under sponsorship of locally or internationally recognized educational, scientific cultural, relief and charitable organizations institutions, agencies or foundations and representative of non-recognized foreign government to international organization and their dependents:

1. Valid Passport2. Contract or agreement between local sponsor and foreign national3. Appointment of foreign national by the host or receiving organization,

institution or foundation4. Acceptance signed by the subject foreign national5. Proof of guarantor’s financial capacity to fulfil his/her undertaking, e.g.,

income tax return, bank accounts, etc
