WELCOME
Mission Statement The Eastward Ho! Women’s 18 Hole Golf League promotes and encourages interest and confidence in competitive golf,
familiarizes players with rules and etiquette of the game, and offers an atmosphere of camaraderie and fun.
All Members with an established handicap of 40 or less are
welcome to join the Women’s 18 Hole Golf League. However, there is a handicap limit of 36 for play in
League events.
Please note that, until we move into another phase of
reopening per the Governor of MA, our Tuesdays will be as follows in red:
You may sign up online through the Club’s website or you can email Andy at [email protected] by Saturday at noon. For now we are required to use tee times which will be from 7:30 am to 9:30 am. You may request an early or late tee time, and Andy will do his best to accommodate your request. Golf carts will be available but only one person per cart. Walking is encouraged and the use of a “cart caddy” is allowed. This enables a player who is walking to put her golf bag on a single person golf cart.
5
There will be only one scorecard per foursome and the person who decides to keep score will place the card in a drop box outside the Pro Shop when the round is completed. For now chip-ins and birdies will be recorded on the scorecard and your golf ball may be picked up at your convenience in the Pro Shop. Unfortunately, at this time we will be unable to have lunch all together. Hopefully, in due time we will have more options for lunch. The Ladies’ Locker Room will not be available but there are restrooms on the course.
Weekly tournaments are scheduled for Tuesdays with an
8:20 am shotgun start. Please be in your golf cart by 8:15 am for a prompt start. An eighteen-hole round of
golf at Eastward Ho! should be played in four hours or less.
Therefore, all golfers should participate in maintaining pace of play in order for us to finish the
round by 12:30 pm.
Members must sign up by Sunday at noon if they wish to
play in the weekly Tuesday tournament. Please email Andy Walkley at [email protected] or sign up on the
Club’s website under “Daily Golf Schedule”. Please inform the Pro Shop of the tee from which you plan to play: White,
Composite or Green. Handicaps will be adjusted to the chosen tees. All tees will be eligible for weekly prizes.
6
Cancellation calls must be made to the Pro Shop no
later than 7:30 am on Tuesday.
Announcement for Inclement Weather In the event of inclement weather, the Superintendent or Assistant will inform the Pro Shop the status of the course
and the use of golf carts. The League Chair will then send out an email blast to all Members within 10 minutes of
receiving the information. Please check your emails on the
days you are playing to get the word on playing conditions. If you don’t have email, you can call the Pro Shop at
508 945-0620 to get daily updates.
Please note that there may be the occasional Tuesday when we determine the weather is poor enough that we will not
play even though the course is not closed. On those
occasions, you will receive an email from our Chair or Vice Chair as close to 7:00 am as possible.

PACE OF PLAY RECOMMENDATIONS
Each member of a group should proceed directly to
her ball. The group should not travel together, going first to one ball, then the next, and so on.
If sharing a cart, drop the first player off at her ball
and drive on ahead to the second ball. The first player should walk over to the cart as the second
player is playing her shot. Don't drive to the first
ball, wait for the first player to hit, then head to the second ball.
While walking (or riding) to your ball, use the travel
time to begin thinking about your next shot, e.g., the yardage, which club you'll use, etc. Begin
preparing before you get to your ball.
Get back into the cart with your club in hand and
place it in your bag when selecting the club for your next shot. Do not take the time to replace head
covers between shots. When leaving your cart to play a shot, bring
everything you may need, including several clubs if
you are unsure of which one to use. Carry a few extra tees, ball markers and a spare ball
in your pockets so you don't have to return to your
golf bag to retrieve them.
When you think your shot might have landed out of
bounds or be lost, immediately hit a provisional
14
ball. Don't walk ahead to search, only to have to
return to the original spot to replay a shot. Never hold up play because you're in the middle of a
conversation. Put the conversation on hold, take
your stroke, and then continue the conversation. On the green, begin lining up your putt and reading
the break as soon as you reach the green. When it's
your turn to putt, be prepared to step right up and
take the stroke. Leave your bag or golf cart at the side of the green
and in the direction of the next tee, never in front of
the green. Do not stand on or next to the green after holing
out in order to write down your score. Write it down
when you reach the next tee. Pick up your ball if you are “out of the hole” or have
exceeded the maximum number of strokes allowed
to take on that hole for handicap purposes.
If all else fails, try playing "ready golf," which simply
means that order of play is based on who's ready, not who's away or who won the last hole.
15
RULES
USGA rules govern all play. Local rules are stated on
the scorecards or will be posted by the Pro Shop.
A Member may choose the tees from which to play:
White, Composite or Green. The Pro Shop will adjust handicaps.
The Women’s 18 Hole Golf League plays on
Tuesdays with an 8:20 am shotgun.
All players in weekly tournaments and Member-
Guest tournaments must be PAID MEMBERS of the
Women’s 18 Hole Golf League. Dues will be
$80.00 per year.
All scores for EVERY ROUND, including 9-hole rounds, must be entered in the computer. You must complete 13 holes to have a score for an 18- hole round of golf. You may have “X’s” on the other 5 holes. If you belong to more than one golf club, please refer to the USGA Rules of Handicapping (Rule 1.4b/3) regarding this topic. The Pro Shop will be happy to assist you in entering your scores. Additionally, it is important to post
scores in the GHIN system when playing other courses.
All players entered in a major event are expected to
be available for play until eliminated. All players
16
will play from the same tees using personal
handicap adjustments.
Entry fees for SPECIAL EVENTS must be paid when
signing up to play in each event.
Cancellation for the Member-Guest and Friends and
Family Tournaments must be made by noon on the
Friday before the Tuesday tournament in order for a member to be refunded tournament fees. If a
cancellation is made after that time, a refund will be given only if the player and accompanying guest’s
place can be filled. The player must inform the Pro Shop as well as the Tournament Chair.
Please read the bulletin board in the Women’s
Locker Room for special notices and check your e-mail.
