Interview with Stuart Hawkes: http://goo.gl/NDtN0v

Metropolis Website: http://www.thisismetropolis.com/

Metropolis Studios in London is the home to the most

successful independent recording, mastering, creative

and production facility in Europe. Led Zeppelin, The

Rolling Stones, U2, Rihanna, One Direction, Adele, and

Lana Del Rey have all recorded, mixed or mastered with

Metropolis in the last 12 months. Metropolis’ top two

mastering engineers Stuart Hawkes and John Davis are

now using the LCD-X in their Studios. Both have been in

audio mastering for over 25 years. Reading a list of

records that Stuart and John have mastered is like a

who’s who of modern music and global artists such as

Led Zeppelin, Lana Del Ray, Amy Winehouse, The Prod-

igy, Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Knife Party and Disclosure to

name a few.

Full Interview with Ken Andrews : http://goo.gl/Ruf4hN

Kens’ Website: http://kenandrews.tumblr.com/

Ken Andrews is the mix engineer of Paramore's No.1

Album. Ken has also mixed and produced for Moby,

Failure, Beck, Nine Inch Nails, A Day To Remember and

M83 to name a few.

“They’ve made high resolution speakers that you wear

on your head. And that’s exactly what they sound like.

All the rich gradations of bass and subtle shadings of

high frequencies all come through just like an amazing

set of speakers in a fantastic control room. But the twist

is you can be anywhere! Well maybe not exactly

anywhere as these phones are, like most high-end head-

phones, open back. So you hear a bit of what’s happen-

ing around you. If there are people talking nearby, you’ll

hear them a bit, and if your in a really noisy place, it

won’t be so good. So you need some level of privacy,

but what you don’t need is an expensive acoustically

designed room, with an expensive set of studio moni-

tors to hear truly neutral, high resolution audio. You just

need a relatively quiet space where a bit of open-back

headphone bleed won’t bother anybody, and you’re

good. And that’s a game changer in my world. I can now

sit in my backyard and mix now. Not just do a few things

and wait to properly evaluate it later in the studio, but

actually mix a song and keep the results. Ears happy.

Mind blown. What these monitors do for me in the

studio is nothing short of miraculous and in the last 3

months they have become a huge part of my everyday

workflow as a mixer, producer, and artist. Do I still use

speakers? Yes I do. But I use them in tandem with my

LCD-Xs. When I’m working in my studio, I prefer to mix

it up throughout the day, between speakers and the

LCD-Xs just to keep it interesting and give my ears a

change of scenery. But if I don’t have access to my mix

room, I continue to work on the LCD-Xs alone. So who

am I recommending these monitors to? Professional

audio people, for sure. I could see forensic audio people

using them, as well. And audiophiles are clearly going to

love these. The fact is, when you look at the price of the

Audeze line, and you compare that to its loudspeaker

counterparts, you are getting an incredible deal. To

match the quality of the monitoring experience that

Audeze provides, you’ll be shelling out at a bare mini-

mum 5-10 thousand dollars, probably much higher, just

for speakers, and that’s to say nothing of the room that

you will need to put them in. So yes, compared to other

headphones, they are expensive, but compare them to

professional studio speakers, and that’s where you

realize that they are are actually a ridiculous value.”

Noisia interview: http://goo.gl/RIcr1l

Noisia Website: https://www.noisia.nl/

Praised and celebrated across all corners of modern

music, the Dutch trio Noisia’s production techniques

and brutally beautiful creations exist in a premier league

of their own. Noisia have released music on Jay-Z’s,

Skrillex and deadmau5’s. As well as remixing the likes of

Katie Perry, The Prodigy and Moby. “Wow, just when

you thought the reference standard had been perma-

nently set by the LCD-3s, out comes the X. It's a very

subtle difference, but as every producer knows, those

differences can matter in some situations. We care

about those differences. And so do Audeze. So the

LCD-X is a little more accurate, a little less flattering.

Which is a good thing in the studio, so bigups! And

besides that, I love the fact that with the LCD-X I can

just plug it into my phone now, it doesn't necessarily

need an external amp for proper volume. The LCD-XC

are the best closed-back studio headphones I've heard.”

Just when you thought the referencestandard had been permanently setby the LCD-3s, out comes the X.

'The LCD-Xs are astonishing headphones. I have been

testing them with different engineers in our new

Shanghai studio and all are amazed by the clarity and

detail thar compares closely with the high-end monitors

we have installed there. I have also been using them

with DJ/Producers who work in the digital domain and

all have been stunned by the performance and sonic

quality of the LCD-X; everyone who tried them could

not go back to their usual monitoring afterwards.

Personally, hearing some well-loved music on them

“The LCD-X provides something I never heard in a

headphone before. A sense of listening in an acoustic

space to a pair of speakers! This is not the boxy,

anechoic sound of headphones, this is the sound of

high- end audio speakers in a headphone. Totally aston-

ishing! For all producers out there looking for mix accu-

racy I would recommend the LCD-X. It works much

better for getting an accurate, full-range picture of your

mix than any pair of monitors, in any room without

expensive acoustic treatment. Most mix issues I come

across in mastering are a result of decisions made

through speakers in non-acoustically-treated environ-

ments. Cut out the guesswork and hear what your mix

really sounds like with the LCD-X.
