COURSE SUMMARIES

Introduction to the Profession of Private InvestigationIn this class, there will be an emphasis on di�erent types of investigative work, licensure requirements, and the role and functions of private investigators. You will also develop a working knowledge of professional ethics in the field, as well as investigative opportunities in the business community.

Basic Principles of InvestigationThis class is designed to enhance your legal knowledge and professional understanding of the field of private investigation. You will study selections of the California Penal Code. You will also develop a working knowledge of the criminal justice process and how it relates to private investigators.

Applied Investigative PracticesLearn the various practices and techniques used in private investigation. Enhance your ability to perform e�ective record searches through public information sources. You will learn how to decipher and summarize court files and public documents in various types of investigations. You will also learn how to gather and evaluate facts surrounding a crime, properly gather evidence and develop witnesses and statements through interviews.

Investigative SpecializationDevelop the skills needed for investigations in such specialized areas as background, insurance fraud, personal injury, surveillance, skip tracing and missing persons.

Optimizing Investigative ResourcesThis capstone class includes a comprehensive overview of the private investigation profession and the activities and techniques used in the industry. Through projects and case studies, you will have the opportunity to use what you learned in the four previous classes. You will also learn how to create opportunities for employment through contacts, networking and other resources.

CERTIFICATE PROGRAMPRIVATE INVESTIGATION

Our sequential cohort model means you’ll take your classes in the ideal order, starting with fundamental concepts of investigation and progressing toward applied skills, culminating in an immersive

final course where you’ll put it all together and prepare for your future career as an investigator.
