The price of liquefi ed petroleum gas (LPG) or cooking gas was cut anew by 50 centavos per kilo yesterday.

Arnel Ty, LPG Mar-keters Association (LP-GMA) president, said the rollback was con-sistent with the drop in international contract prices.

They are also project-

ing an additional P3 per kilo rollback in the com-ing weeks, he said.

An 11-kg LPG cylin-der will now sell at P580, compared to about P600 to P750 the previous week.

Last month, LPG con-tract prices went down by $5 per metric ton to $731 per metric ton.

There will be no classes at all levels on Monday, Feb. 22, to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Peo-ple Power Revolution.

However, it will be a regular working day for government and private offi ces.

While the event is cel-ebrated every year, it is

not among the country’s national holidays.

in May, The Philippine STAR has started a series of interviews, in no particular order, with candidates for president.

Meetings are hosted by The STAR in the newspaper’s offi ce, with the editorial staff asking the candidates questions on a wide range of issues.

The answers, recorded on tape and in vid-eo, portions of which can be viewed online in philstar.com, can later be used as references

for campaign promises met or unfulfi lled, goals achieved or changed.

The resulting write-ups will include per-sonal information about the candidates, including declared assets and liabilities, as well as family, friendship and business ties that could affect policy making in the next administration.

A condensed version of all the write-ups will be put together and published on the eve of Election Day, for the guidance of voters.

Nacionalista Party (NP) president and standard-bearer Sen. Manuel Villar Jr. said the party will nomi-nate its own candidate for House speaker in the next Congress to challenge President Arroyo, in case she is elected congress-woman and aspires for the speakership.

“The (Nacionalista) Party would choose its speaker and hindi naman miembro ng party namin si Presidente (and the President is not a member of our party),” Villar told The STAR editors and columnists gathered for the start of the paper ’s presidential series yesterday. “I am not saying that we are going to win. I am just saying that we are going to nominate (a speaker).”

Villar has rebuilt the NP from scratch and steered it to its status as one of the most formidable political parties in the country today, boasting of hundreds of local leaders in its roster.

The NP has been aggres-sive in raiding other political parties and in recruiting more members. Since last year, Vil-lar has been swearing in new members to the NP’s fold.

Villar again defended the NP and himself from accusa-tions that he has struck an un-holy alliance with Mrs. Arroyo.

“In the field, Lakas and Nacionalista are hitting each other. On Dec.1, many wanted to join us but the President stopped them,” Villar said.

He stressed that he has not seen or spoken to the First Cou-ple since his ouster as Senate president in November 2008.
