We’ve had a very interesting couple ofweeks across the school and thestudents are still smashing out theirlearning. This week I was lucky enough to readsome narrative orientations from YearTwo, attend a philosophy lesson andread some story connections in Prep.It certainly reminded me of the fact that in light of all thecraziness happening now around the world, our kids are stillhappy and ready to learn. In coming weeks we will have to postpone a couple ofevents and cancel the Easter Hat Parade. The learning in ourrooms will continue as normal and students will continue tolearn all of the essential skills we’ve mapped out for the term.It was very positive to see so many families taking up theopportunity to meet with teachers for interviews. These aregreat opportunities to see how your child is tracking and toensure their learning is progressing. If you didn’t manage

Writers Group – Week 8Writers Group – Week 8

In these current times it is important to concentrate on positivethings that are happening in our world. At Writers Group wediscussed how we could make a difference in the world. Webrainstormed to gather our ideas. Students thrive inenvironments where they are encouraged and praised for theeffort they make in areas they can control, like how they treatother people and animals enabling them to make positivecontributions to the world they live in. Students can, and will, change the world. Our question today ‘How can we makea difference to our world?’ Here are some of the student’sprofound thoughts.

MaddieMaddie JJ (4R):(4R): I would like to make a difference in the world bymaking people put their rubbish in the bin. If people just leavetheir rubbish lying around the wind will blow it into the ocean, beaches, rivers and creeks which will create sea pollution.

MaleeyaMaleeya YY (4B):(4B): I would like to make a difference to our worldby stopping the wars because bullets hurt and the bombs makefires. The smoke hurts our lungs and stops us breathing.

NelsonNelson CC (4/(4/5H):5H): I would like to make a difference to our worldby stopping all fighting and killing, so people can be happy. Aworld without wars and without guns.

LiamLiam TT (4R):(4R): I would like to change our world by recyclingplastic and cans. So people will stop making fresh plastic infactories. People can make toys from the recycled plastic.

WilliamWilliam SS (4W):(4W): I would like to make a difference in the worldby helping others to give more respect for each other and theirfamilies. Many people get into fights over silly stuff such as toiletpaper, food etc. So to make a difference we can start programsabout world peace for a better and healthier life.

SophieSophie CC (4/(4/5H):5H): I would like to make a difference to our worldby making our seas healthier and also by not polluting them. Our sea creatures cannot live with pollution. If one bit of rubbishgets into their mouths they could die.

MaxMax TT (4/(4/5H):5H): I would like to change the world by gettingrid of hunger problems, global warming, wars on land, start aprogram for viruses and sickness and planting more trees.

EloiseEloise HH (4B):(4B): I would like to make a difference to our worldby saving beautiful animals by planting trees and flowers andmaking animals healthy.

SarahSarah KK (4T):(4T): I would like to make a difference to our world byreplanting trees to rebuild habitats for animals that have beenlost in the bush fires. Lots of animals at the moment have nohomes or food. If we replant the trees it will help the growingprocess instead of just waiting for the trees to grow back. Inthe meantime we could see if we could get a health check foranimals. This would mean if animals are unwell we could helpthem get better and then we could release them back to thewild to breed to help build the population.

EloiseEloise PP (6B):(6B): I would like to make a difference in the worldby helping all the beautiful animals that lost their homes in thebushfires such as the trees that koalas live in. I would getgroups of people together to plant trees in the areas affectedby the fires.

HaydenHayden MM (6T):(6T): Orienteering - I chose orienteering becauseI thought it would be fun. Most of my friends also choseorienteering. Finally, Friday came and we had our first Electivesession. Mr. Duncan was the teacher. He showed us how toidentify where to find the orienteering checkpoints. Altogetherwe went on our first orienteering course. Mr. Duncan showedus where the place was to tick off our names every time wefinished a course.

Sam and I made a goal to finish every single time we hadorientating. There are five orienteering levels - Green, orange, amber, red and maroon. At the end of week 4, Sam and Iwere already up to level orange. When we were faced with acourse, we ran as fast as lightening. Yes! A week had passedand it’s Friday again! This week in orienteering we watched avideo and it showed that orienteering is not about the running. After the video, Sam and I got the next course and went on tocomplete it. It took a lot of effort but we finished all the rest ofthe orange courses. We noticed Mickey was completing courseafter course. He was our competitor and we needed to stophim. But sadly we had to wait until the next week.

BlathnaidBlathnaid MM (5L):(5L): Electives were to be held on Fridayafternoons from 1.45 until 3.00 pm. It was a hard decisionas teachers were offering lots of electives like futsal, bowling, orienteering, volleyball, drama and many more. I was veryexcited that there was an art elective. I chose the art because Ilove painting. It was held in Mr. Leach’s classroom.

EloiseEloise PP (6B):(6B): I was so happy when Mrs Madden and MrsWhitchurch offered Drama in electives. We sat in the hall andlistened to all the electives being offered by the teachers. I hadto make my mind up which one I was to choose. I went backand forth not knowing which one to choose as I really wantedto choose Land Care with Mr. Burns. But finally I made my mindup and chose drama. On our second week we went all aroundthe school sneaking into classes being different animals. Myfavourite class to visit was Mr. Box’s class because he barkedlike a dog at us hoping to frighten us.

RubyRuby SS 6M:6M: I chose Drama with Mrs Madden and MrsWhitchurch which took place in the music room on Fridayafternoons from 1.45 until 3.00 pm. I chose drama as Idramatise everything and let out my inner acting skills. Oneof my acting parts was ‘taking my daughter Eloise to schooldragging her along the ground acting like a mother that doesnot care.’

I believe Golden Beach State School offers drama electives forstudents to build confidence and embrace their characters sothey can become great actresses. I also love how every yearthey offer new and different things for students to learn and thishelps them become confident students by making them stepout of their comfort zone.
