Dr. Julie Fogarty

Last week Forest School suffered a loss with the death of one of our 5th grade students in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program. Emilio was a friendly, happy little boy who will be missed. Children react to death in different ways. If your child is struggling to make sense of it and needs some extra support at school, please do not hesitate to contact his/her classroom teacher or me. Parent Teacher Conferences are Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 24-25. We look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s progress.

Thank you for all the ways you made Principal Appreciation Week so special. Two volumes of “What My Principal Does All Day” made for truly entertaining reading at the end of a couple of those days. It is a joy and an honor serving as Forest School’s principal.

A Letter From The PresidentHello Forest Families!

It’s been an exciting month for Forest students and families. The Forest Fall Festival was a fun-filled evening of games, food and Halloween costumes! Many thanks to the Program Planning Committee, volunteers and teachers who helped make this event such a success. Forest students and families were given the opportunity to thank Dr. Fogarty for all she does for Forest during Principal Appreciation Week. Also, Forest students enjoyed Halloween parties organized by the Hospitality committee and room parents.

The holiday season is right around the corner, and the Forest PTC has lots of holiday fun planned. The Holiday Store will be open for children to shop on December 3rd and 4th. The Cultural Art Committee welcomes the World Holiday Music Show on December 12th. Holiday classroom parties will take place on December 19th. And did you know you can support the PTC and buy holiday gift cards at the same time? Many selections are available and are perfect for gift giving! Look for the gift card flyer coming home in the next few weeks. Thank you for all your support.

Check out Forest PTC on the Web! For more information about PTC news and events, please check out our new website – forestptc.digitalpto.com.

Please join us for our next PTC meeting on Tuesday, December 9th at 7pm in the Forest Tile Room. It is open to all Forest families and we encourage you to come. Childcare is available at no cost.

Please feel free to email me at any time with questions, suggestions, or to inquire about any volunteer opportunities.

Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

The Manna Gift Card flyer is out!!! Manna Gift Cards are an easy and simple way to help support the Forest PTC! There are over 200 local and nationwide stores, restaurants, services, etc., to choose from including Marianos, Jewel, and Joe Caputo. If you are taking a trip during the holidays, we have hotel and Disney gift cards available also. These businesses donate 2-30% of the purchase price of the gift card or certificate back to the Forest PTC. Last year we had families turn in $19,000.00 of Joe Caputo receipts. If they used gift cards to shop, Forest would have raised close to $850.00! Please keep this in mind for your holiday shopping.

Coming Soon: Looking for a night out with other Forest parents? We are going to have a parent’s night at Countryside in Des Plaines keep watching for updates. Thanks for all your support!!

Everyone is also wecome to join us Friday, December 5, right after school in downtown Des Plaines at Metropolitan Square to help decorate our tree.

Holiday Store/Santa’s Secret Workshop

The Holidays are quickly approaching and the Forest School PTC is once again sponsoring the Holiday Store. The Holiday Store is set up as a fun way for kids to do inexpensive shopping for family and friends. It also provides a way for them to learn a little independence and money matters.

So boys & girls, start saving your pennies! Maybe ask around the house to see if there are any extra chores you can do to earn a little extra money to save up and buy a little something special for mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, your brothers, sisters or whoever else you might like to shop for.

The Holiday Store will be open during the school day on December 3rd & 4th, from 9AM until 4PM. Most of the classrooms will be coming at least one if not both days. We will also be open until 6PM the evening of December 4th for students to come back with their parents or an adult to help them shop if they’d like.

Volunteers are always needed. It’s a lot of fun being one of the elves, helping the students pick out just the right gift for someone special. If you’d like to help out, please contact our volunteer coordinator Michelle Georgoulis at [email protected]. Stay a few hours or all day!

More information will be sent home after Thanksgiving break.

Principal Appreciation Week: A final shout-out to Dr. Fogarty for all that she does for our children and families!

And a huge thank you to all of the families, students, and staff that contributed to the success of our appreciation efforts! Take a look at the results of our ‘tree’ posted on Dr. Fogarty’s door!

Congratulations! The Halloween class parties were a big success! Thanks to all the room parents who made everything so fun!!

Remember that the Winter class parties are scheduled for Friday, December 19th 2:00-3:00pm. The hospitality committee will again supply your cups, plates and napkins. Questions? Contact Mindy Capper at (847 )813-9062 or [email protected].
