PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Thank you to all our parent helpers and volunteers on NAIDOC Day. It has

been a great start to the term and due to an enormous amount of preparation

put in by staff, students are settling in well.

A huge thank you to all the parents who were able to attend parent-teacher

interviews. Those parents who were unable to attend you are most welcome to

arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher throughout the term. It is

extremely pleasing to hear the positive feedback from parents after they have

met with their child’s class teacher and how they have found this opportunity

valuable.

Parent Concerns: Please direct all concerns to your child’s teacher in the

first instance. If they are not resolved at the classroom level, please contact

the school to make an appointment with the Principal in order to discuss

concerns.

Yours sincerely,

Georgina Wales

Purpose

Children have the opportunity to familiarise

with the school, classroom environment, rou-

tines and staff while having a familiar person

in the room. This allows for a smoother transi-

tion to kindy in the future.

Parents can chat or network with other parents and discuss achievements,

problems and solutions they are experiencing with their child.

The children are offered a greater range of supervised learning activities

with parent involvement. Parents become familiar with developmental and

learning stages, and activities their child is participating in. Parents may feel

more confident to use or extend these activities at home for their child’s

benefit.

Program

The program includes a variety of activities to cater for the children’s devel-

opment in language, social, emotional, physical and intellectual areas. It is

designed to offer a balance of quiet and active activities, involving free

play and teacher directed activities. Within a fun and stimulating environ-

ment the children are also encouraged to build on skills of independence,

self-esteem, awareness and resilience.

Session Times

Our 0-4 program is held every Friday of the school term from 9.00 to

10.00am. The co-ordinator is Mrs Clare Rykers (nee Hawke) who is also our

Kindy/PP classroom teacher.

Parent Responsibilities and Involvement

Parents maintain duty of care for their children while on the school grounds.

Parents are required to attend each session with their child/children.

What is a healthy lunchbox?

Good models to use when selecting lunchbox foods are the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating or the Healthy Food and Drink Policy (also known as the school traffic light system). A healthy lunchbox should contain:

1. A good helping of fruit and vegetables 2. Bread/grains 3. Lean protein like tuna, salmon, eggs, beans or lean meat 4. Reduced fat dairy 5. A bottle of water

Remember: keep treats such as chips and chocolates for weekend or party foods rather than sending them to school. Limit the number of times packaged items such as flavoured crackers and muesli bars are provided.

In 2015 the students suggested names for the two Wundowie Primary School Factions. The suggested names were then voted on by all the students from PP to Year 6.

The winning names were selected and the factions are now called Red Backs and Gold Rush.

The students were then given the opportunity to draw their ideas of what should go on the faction flags.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

We are sitting on 28% fees that have been paid. Payment is greatly appreciated, please see Mrs Sue Hammer or Mrs Alison McGrail at the school office. If you are unable to make full payment we would welcome a series of smaller payments. Thank you.

Financial support provided by parent / carers in the

payment of Voluntary Contributions has always played a

significant role in enabling Wundowie Primary School to

further extend and resource the planned student’s educa-

tional programs, adding value to your child’s/children’s learn-

ing experience.

Families who have paid their voluntary contributions will be placed in a raffle to be drawn at the End of Year Concert.
