PRINCIPAL’S NOTES
IT’S A WRAP!
Half of our school has now participated in making and enjoying Jamie Oliver’s Rainbow Wraps – but we’ve also had Fruit Sticks. Younger and older kids alike had a great time putting their own wrap together, and then threading fruit onto a bamboo skewer. It all made for yummy lunches. If your child hasn’t had their special, healthy lunch yet, it will happen on either Wednesday or Thursday. Already I’ve heard parents saying “He ate something that he never eats at home – he’ll be getting it from now on!” Sometimes that is the case; when their friends are trying some new food, or something they may not have tried very often…. They just eat it too! What a great way to introduce your child to healthy foods.
Don’t forget to bring your $2.00 if you haven’t done so!
School Photos Today we will send home the delightful school photos you ordered. Looking at them, I am extremely happy that we have continued with this photographer. I’m sure you’ll feel the same. Junior School Councillors and Young Leaders The photo of these leaders in our school is displayed for you to view at the office. If you wish to order one, you can pay Kerry Placek or Margaret Healy and we will order the number required. Holidays As this is the last newsletter for the term, I would like to wish all of our families a happy and safe break. Many families enjoy a “stay at home” warm two weeks, and I know some families also travel. Whatever you do, keep safe, well and warm. At this point I usually like to say that I look forward to seeing you back at the beginning of the new term. However this time, I too am enjoying a holiday a little further away than usual – consequently I shall not see you until week five of Term Three. I shall be enjoying Scotland, France, Germany and Italy.
I think I’ll enjoy myself!!!

2014 FIFA WORLD CUP
2014 FIFA WORLD CUP The FIFA World Cup was first held in 1930 in Uruguay and has been held every four years since (except in 1942 and 1946 during World War II). It is commonly regarded as the biggest sporting event on Earth. Did you know? People from over 200 countries make up the Australian community. The motto for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is ‘All in one rhythm’. In Portuguese, the language of Brazil, that translates to Juntos num so ritmo. In 1966, while on exhibition in England the Jules Rimet Trophy was stolen. It was later recovered in a suburban garden by a dog named Pickles.
Australian population today is around 23,466,000. (Nearly 24 million!) Around 7.2 million people have migrated to Australia since 1945. Harmony Day (March 21st) is about encouraging people to participate in their community, to respect different cultures and religions and to foster a sense of belonging for everyone. This year the Wold Cup fosters harmony and respect and provides us with an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of Harmony Day, every day. A few weeks ago a guy named Matt from Earth Ed came out to our school, Reservoir Primary School to give a science incursion. Each of the 5/6 classes
Group 9, 10 and 11 joined in on the FUN!!! We needed to get into partners and I was partners with Pavlos. To show particles, 2 boys and 2 girls got out to the front. Samuel and I needed to lock arms and Zahra and Ashleigh did the same to show particles together. When we needed to show 2 different particles together Zahra went with me and Samuel went with Ashleigh. After that we started to get into action!! We made fizzing tablets which we used in science last week. We needed to investigate how high the balloon would rise when we added crushed fizzing tablet to water. The ingredients in the fizzing tablet were oil, water, acid and bicarb soda. Once we finished making the fizzing tablets we went onto the Art Room balcony to check which groups’ rocket tablet went the highest. Pavlos and I found that the crushed tablet went higher than the other tablets with hot and cold water. Overall it was an exciting and fun day of science! Lynton
A few weeks ago a man called Matt came to our school for a Science Incursion. We made little tablets for experiments. We actively used the ones he brought because our tablets needed to harden overnight. We did this in partners and my partner was Zahra. We were talking about particles and 4 people went to the front to perform different particles. Then we started to make our fizzing tablets. We neede a few ingredients to make the tablet and it was so cool! Then we had to squash it up and we placed it on the bench to harden. Then we went out to do our experiment. We had water that was hot and cold and we had tablets crushed and whole. We filled our tube with water and placed the tablet in and then we closed the lid, placed it on the ground and it popped up! This Science Incursion was so cool! I want to try the experiment with my own tablet! Ying

What an amazing science incursion Group 9 had! We had a lot of fun! We made cool rockets which would fly up high. The funniest part was the particle dancing but it was interesting too. The man told us a lot of information about science. We made tablets in partners. No one knows how much fun we had!

Maria H. Wow, it was awesome when we had our Science Incursion. Rockets were flying and …. wait, I’ll tell you everything slowly, from the start. So, I was in class waiting for what the teacher would say. Ms Elsheikhi said we were going to have….OUR SCIENCE INCURSION! (An incursion is when the guy visits us). Later, we met Matt, who was going to teach us AWESOME stuff with rocket science. I was so excited but choosing a partner was hard, really hard. I chose Ashleigh and we started the activity Chloe
