Wonderful Writers
Well done to the Tom A and Grace A in 3/4A who wrote these amazing literary descriptions:
Desert
Walking along the hot, dry sand I see thorny, spherical succulents. Beside these prickly
plants are trivial shrubs blocking the path of a long, lonely lizard. As I trudge through
the deep sand I see minute creatures scurrying to their homes which are behind the
groups of spiky cacti. The gushing wind is cooler than the scorching sun above my black,
bushy hair. A snake slithering along caught my attention. The whip-like snake is looking
at me with a sour face and I know I will have to quickly run if I don’t want to be
attacked. The sand is so hot that it is like I was taking a journey through a burning

oven. The oven is burning through my shoes and my feet are becoming red tomatoes
against my pair of brown leather sandals. The whooshing wind brushes against my face
as the dead leaves of the shrubs dance through the cool air.

The Desert
Walking along the endless sun burnt sand I see cacti as thin as pencils and scurrying
lizards. I never felt so hot in my whole entire life. I can hear the gushing wind, it’s
competing with the scorching sun. Roaming reptiles scurrying across the earthy-
coloured gritty sand. Footprints leading me to the limited water. The scorching sun is
burning my neck and has made it red like a tomato.

Kids in the Kitchen
Macaroni & Cheese Muffins
Kids will like this fun approach to the traditional macaroni and cheese recipe. It's baked in muffin tins so that they can eat it with their hands. You can also add vegetables to the mix. Ingredients:
2 cups cooked macaroni
¼ cup grated cheese of your choice
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup diced ham
1/4 cup bread crumbs + 2 tablespoons
Method:
1. Combine cooked macaroni, cheese, eggs, ham,
and 1/4 cup bread crumbs. Stir until well combined.
2. Spray eight openings in a muffin tin with non-stick spray.
3. Use an ice cream scoop to add 1/2 cup of mixture to each cup.
4. Gently press mixture down with your fingers to flatten it into each cup. 5. Sprinkle with additional bread crumbs. 6. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 20-25 minutes...depending on how soft or firm you prefer your
muffins. Immediately remove from cups to cool on a wire rack. Refrigerate after 30 minutes of cooling.

Ethics classes at Lugarno Public School Dear parents and carers, Could you be an Ethics Teacher for Lugarno Public School?
Interest in our ethics classes continues to grow and we are seeking a volunteer so that children from all stages who have expressed an interest in attending, can participate from Term 1, 2019.
Ethics Teachers receive full training by Primary Ethics, which consists of a two day workshop and short online modules. Curriculum and access to teaching resources is provided. Suitable volunteers have an interest in developing children’s critical thinking skills and must be available at 9:00am-9:30am or 9:30am-10:00am on Tuesday each week. In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically, disagree respectfully and support their arguments with evidence, rather than act according to blind habit or peer pressure. Children discuss topics such as:
- Imagining how others feel - How do we treat living things? - What is laziness? - How do we disagree in a respectful way? - Fairness
If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au and / or contact Jo Worner, Ethics Coordinator, at [email protected] or by phone on 0418 50 74 38. Mrs Justine Williams Principal Lugarno Public School
