Principals Report Mr MacDonald has done a wonderful job as Relieving Principal while I was away and I would like to thank him for his efforts. Travelling to another country has certainly been a great experience and one that provided me to learn and grow, through interacng with the people and learning their culture. Whilst it was an amazing experience, it has certainly made me appreciate living in the Nambucca Valley. There is no place like home. I would like to thank all our families for their understanding and co-operaon in the early days of our new school gate locking system. The top pedestrian gate will open at 8.30am and students are required to sit in class lines when they first arrive. Supervision of children on our top playground begins at 8.40am each day. NAIDOC celebraons at Macksville Public School are in full swing this week. This years theme: Voice, Treaty, Truth, Lets Work Together for a Shared Future’, highlights the desire to move forward together. I would like to thank all staff, Elders, community members and our students for their hard work in preparing for NAIDOC Week and we welcome our wider community into our school to celebrate with us. We are hoping for fine weather in order to enjoy Bush Tucker tomorrow, lay our decorave footpath on Thursday, and hold the Tradional Indigenous Games on Friday. We are also coming up to Educaon Week celebraons next week. Our Open Day takes place on Thursday August 8 th and we look forward to all our parents and carers coming in and celebrang with us. Principal’s Report

Book Fair Our annual ‘Book Fair’ by the School Library will be held on Thursday, August 8th, during Open Day Week 3. This is where

students and families have the opportunity to purchase a

book, which is donated to the school library collection.

Student donated books will be acknowledged with a

‘donated by’ certificate on the inside cover of the book.

Students who donated a book will have the opportunity to be

the first to borrow them when they are ready for borrowing. Just a reminder that all books purchased on the day are donated

to the school library.

Book Week Parade The theme for this year’s Book Week Parade is ‘Reading is My Secret Power’, which will be held

this term in Week 7, September 4th. So get those thinking caps on and get dressed up as your

favourite book character. It is always a joy to see what students and teachers get dressed up

as, and I can’t wait to see this year’s array of fabulous costumes our students come to school

wearing. So watch this space for more information in the coming weeks. ~ Sarah Pade - Librarian/Teacher

This week in the wide world of Macksville Public School sport, our students have been competing all around the local community achieving greatness. The week began with our

school netball team travelling to Crescent Head to play the 4th round of the PSSA knockout competition. The girls were very excited to be playing in this game and had been putting in the hard yards on the training paddock. The opposition was tough, however the girls were up for the challenge starting off the game really strongly. The girls were able to put together some swift attacking moves to score some early points against Crescent Head. The girls went into the second half with a positive outlook and were looking as though they would be successful in taking out the win. However, some late points from Crescent Head and some attacking moves not going to plan contributed to the girls being defeated 30-15. The girls represented our school with exemplary sportsmanship and were a credit to both themselves and the school in the way they played and the positive attitude they kept after their hard-fought defeat. Secondly, our Under 10 and Open Rugby League team travelled to Coffs Harbour to play in the All Schools Rugby League tournament. Both teams were very strong over all aspects of the pitch and displayed some excellent skills and quick footwork to put up an excellent show for the parent spectators at the event. Our teams were very strong and had their fair share of wins and losses in both divisions. They were all excellent representatives of our school and competed with their heads held high. All players remained encouraging towards fellow team members during all games throughout the day. Finally, a reminder the District Athletics carnival is this Friday 2nd August. Please ensure that your notes are brought back to school prior to the carnival to ensure students are aware of events in which they have qualified. Keep an eye on Facebook and the newsletter for more information. ~ Matt Greenway - Teachers
