World’s Greatest Shave Congratulations to the SRC for organising our school’s “World’s Greatest Shave” event on Friday this week. Digital Nutrition This week students in each year group attended a one-lesson session on “digital nutrition” presented by Jocelyn Brewer, a teacher and psychologist. In her presentation she drew a parallel between what we consume when we eat and what we consume with our digital devices, most notably mobile phones, hence the name of the presentation. Just as there are a a lot of foods we like to eat that are not good for us, there are a lot of apps we use on devices that are not good for us. In her session with students, Jocelyn invited them to identify these apps and consider their use in moderation. Jocelyn also ran a session after school on Tuesday for staff, which covered similar material as her student sessions with an emphasis on resources available to assist teach-ers. On Wednesday evening she ran a parent session. Thanks go to Mrs Mercer for organising the sessions. Building Update Work on the new sports stadium is continuing, however, it has been impacted by the recent wet weather. Earth works to prepare the building site are close to completion and following this, construction of the actual building will begin. This week, representatives from the construction company, architect and project manager group met with the PE staff to dis-cuss building finishes, furniture and building layout. Meanwhile our demountable city grows. This week we began using 4 more classrooms and next week two science labs will be handed over ready for us to setup and use. The next step of demountable movement will be the removal of the Industrial Arts rooms to be replaced by administration and toilet facilities. Planning is also well underway for the remediation work on our permanent buildings. This work will involve the removal of all contaminated material, a new roof structure and an internal refurbishment. Documents are currently being pre-pared for calling of tenders. Year 7 Welcome Night Survey Report Following the Year 7 parent welcome night held earlier this term a joint school / P&C survey was conducted to evaluate the night and identify areas to improve for next year. The survey had a good response rate of 47%. Thanks to all of the families who participated. The report from the survey was distributed this week to all Year 7 parents. A report on the ac-tions we will adopt as a result of the survey will be given at the next P&C meeting on Thursday March 26, week 9. Year 12 Assessment Period and HSC Demystified As we move into the second part of the first term, Year 12 are approaching the half way mark of their HSC studies. In the coming weeks, most subjects will be running school based assessment tasks evaluating student progress. The final HSC mark is made up of a 50% HSC exam mark and a 50% school assessment mark for most courses. The assess-ments students will be undertaking in the coming weeks contribute to the school assessment mark, so they are very im-portant. If you are interested in finding out more about the HSC, how it is marked and the ATAR, come along to our HSC Demystified night to be held on 30 March starting at 6:30pm in the hall. Year 12 Parent, Teacher & Student Conferences Parents, Teachers and Year 12 students will be able to meet and discuss progress towards the HSC next Tuesday after-noon. Conferences will be held from 3:30 until 6:30. Bookings can be made online by going to the parent portal. If you are feeling unwell please contact the office to arrange a telephone interview. Congratulations Once again, congratulations to Nicole C (Year 12). As we have read in previous newsletters, Nicole is a very talented softball player. This week she attended the All Schools softball trials and has been selected for the NSW All Schools team. She will be participating in the School Sport Australia Championships to be held in Perth in May. Well done Nicole! Best Wishes Mark Watson Principal

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY EVENT

On Tuesday 10th March, Genna C, Lizzie M and Frida B, along with Mrs Jaeger, were guests at the Ku-ring-gai Coun-cil's International Women's Day event. The focus was on future leaders and the event was attended by students from other local schools including Ku-ring-gai High School, Pymble Ladies' College, Hornsby Girls' High School and Roseville College. The event, which was hosted by the Mayor Jennifer Anderson and attended by councillors from the local wards, was led by a panel from the organisation "Provoke Woke". The mission of the day was to discuss how young people can become better change-makers; become aware of intersectionality; overcome barriers of stereotypes and racial divides; and work together to celebrate the progress of women. Rugby union star, Evelyn Horomia, gave an inspiring talk on the progress women have made in sport and what needs to be done for them to continue to succeed in what was previously a male dominated sporting culture. Another important message was that it is important to see all issues not as "silos", but that social justice, climate awareness and gender equality are all intertwined and need continued open and respectful dialogue. The conclusion of the day was "Call In - Don't Call Out" each other as we continue to work towards equality. We all thoroughly enjoyed this thought-provoking day. Jennifer Jaeger English Teacher
