PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY 4-H FASHION REVUE

The annual Prince George’s County 4-H Fashion Revue will be held at on Saturday, September 9, 2017. Registration will begin at 1:00 p.m. and individual judging will start at 1:30 p.m. Awards will be present on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. during the 4-H Achievement & Awards Ceremony. 4-Hers may enter (1) Ready-to-Wear (purchased) or (1) Constructed outfits. Participants must pre-register for this event using 4-H Online system. Deadline: Friday, August 25, 2017. Submit Outfit information to the 4-H Informational Table on Entry Night! All Prince George’s County 4-Hers are welcome to participate in this event. The following general rules will apply:

GENERAL CONTEST RULES:

1. The participant must be enrolled in Prince George’s County 4-H 2. The participant DOES NOT have to be enrolled in the Fashion or Clothing projects 3. Participants will be judged in the appropriate age category:

• Clovers – Ages 5-7 • Juniors – Ages 8-10

• Intermediates – Ages 11-13 • Seniors – Ages 14-18

4. Participants may compete in a maximum of one (1) class in each category (Ready-to-Wear and Constructed), wearing two (1) different outfits in each category (1 Ready-to-Wear and 1 Constructed).

5. Participants must complete two steps to enter the Fashion Revue. First, register for the event in 4-H Online. Second, complete the attached Entry Information Form and Narrative for EACH outfit you plan to model. You will turn in the form and narrative when you check in at the contest, and it will be reviewed by the judges as part of your entry. The narrative will be read by the Narrator as you are modeling your outfit the Fashion Revue show. The Narrative MUST be typed or neatly printed.

6. Each 4-Her will wear only ONE outfit of his/her choosing during the public Fashion Revue. Narratives used for public Fashion Revue may be slightly modified to enhance the program.

READY-TO-WEAR OUTFIT CLASSES: (Participants may enter a maximum of ONE class, wearing one different outfits)

A. Sportswear/Loungewear – a. Sportswear outfits include jogging outfits, beach wear, tennis wear, riding habits, ski outfits,

skating costumes, or other sport-specific outfits. b. Loungewear outfits include sleepwear, track suits, or other clothing worn while relaxing

B. Separates – An outfit of at least two (2) coordinated garments that are modeled together, such as jeans and a blouse, pants and a shirt, a skirt/blouse/jacket combination, etc. Accessories such as scarves, jewelry, tights, footwear, etc. do not count as a “coordinating garment” but will be judged as part of the outfit.

C. Dress – A one-piece dress for casual or informal occasions that does not qualify for the Business/Professional or Formalwear categories.

D. Business/Professional – An outfit appropriate for a job interview or professional setting, such as a suit, dress, or shirt/slacks combination.

E. Formalwear – An outfit suitable for evening or formal events such as weddings/celebrations, dances, proms, holiday parties, etc. Includes menswear and long or short dresses or skirt/blouse combinations.

F. Outerwear – A garment meant to be worn outdoors and over other clothing but not designed for a particular sport or event, such as coats, jackets, rainwear, capes, blazers, etc.

G. Costume – Outfits which are historic, ethnic, or created for theatrical or special events H. Wearable Art - decorate a garment(s) using arts and crafts techniques, embellish to taste. Member must

include before and after pictures with narrative.

CONSTRUCTED OUTFIT CLASSES: (Participants may enter a maximum of ONE class, wearing one different outfits)

Garments may be of any type (dress, shirt, coat, etc.) as long as they have been significantly altered or re-constructed to obtain a new shape. Entry form must include before and after photos of the garment in its pre- and post-altered state.

I. Creative Choice - Outfits/garments which do not meet criteria for any other class, such as aprons, hats, etc.

JUDGING:

For Ready-to-Wear outfits, judging will be focused on value of investment, modeling, and fit of the garment/outfit. For Constructed outfits, judging will also consider the quality of the 4-Hers sewing/handiwork (see attached scoresheets). Participants are encouraged to display appropriate accessories such as jewelry, scarves/shawls, handbags, umbrellas, hats, walking sticks, sports equipment, props, etc., to complete their outfit and “look.”

AWARDS:

Judging will be conducted under the Danish System, using the attached scoresheets. Clovers will receive Clover participation ribbons. Ribbons will be awarded as follows:

NARRATION Use the example below as a guideline. You must write a paragraph for a narrator to read while you are modeling your outfit during the fashion revue. It is much easier for you to show your outfit to the best advantage while the narrator describes your garments and your work putting the outfit together and accessorizing it. Start by introducing yourself by name, age, and 4-H Club, and tell a little bit about your 4-H projects and experiences. Then describe your outfit. You may want to include the type of outfit, where you purchased it, what occasion(s) you will wear it for, and how it makes you feel.

After you write your narrative, read it out loud a few times and think of how you will model your outfit along with the words. You may want to have a friend or family member read it while you practice. Remember, you want to tell the judge and the audience about your outfit in a way that helps them appreciate what they are seeing when you model. Be creative and have fun!

EXAMPLE NARRATION:

Eleven-year-old Janie Lane of the Go-Getters 4-H Club has been a Prince George’s County 4-H member for four years. She is Treasurer of her club, and she is enrolled in the Healthy Living, Photography, and Crafts projects. Janie’s favorite thing about being in 4-H is exhibiting her projects in the Prince George’s County Fair every fall. Janie is ready to go back to school in her fun fall outfit. She is Happy and Hippy Chic in her colorful flowing top from Target and trendy jeans from Old Navy. Janie’s dark-wash denim skinny jeans are a nice base for her orange, fuschia, teal, and brown paisley sheer peasant blouse, layered over a chocolate-brown tank top. Brown knee-high leather riding boots coordinate perfectly with her look. Janie had a ton of fun choosing funky accessories for her outfit. A large copper-and-turquoise pendant on a brown leather cord accents the gathered neckline of her flowy top, and matching copper peace sign earrings add a retro flair. The fuschia fabric poppy adorning her brown headband tops off her Flower Child look. Peace Out, Janie!

HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST USING 4-H ONLINE

The 4-Her must be actively enrolled in 4-H for 2017. If the 4-Her’s enrollment is not active, s/he will not be able to access the event registration. If the 4-Her’s enrollment status is NOT “Active”, do the following:

• If status is “Inactive” – complete re-enrollment for 2017 and submit. The enrollment will be approved

once the $10.00 annual re-enrollment fee is received by the Prince George’s County 4-H Office. • If status is “Pending” – it is awaiting approval. Contact the Prince George’s County 4-H Office. • If status is “Incomplete” – the enrollment is missing information or has not been properly submitted.

To access the Event Registration:

1. Log in to your family profile in 4-H Online. From the welcome screen click on the yellow “Continue to

Family” button. You will be taken to the “Member List” screen.

2. Scroll to the bottom of the “Member List” screen. You will see a box titled “Register a Member in an Event – Only Members with an “Active” Enrollment Status May Enter”. Choose the 4-Her’s name and event from the drop-down menus and click the “Register” button.

3. Fill in your entry using the drop-down menus, text fields, and check boxes. You must complete all boxes to move forward with the registration. If you do not want to enter an event, choose “None” from the drop-down menu. Click the “Continue” button.

4. The “Cart” screen will appear and show that there is no charge for this event. Click the “Check Out” button.

5. A “Payment” screen will appear, and you will see a filled dot beside the check option. You do not need to do

anything with this screen. Click the “Select Payment Method” button.

6. A “Confirm” screen will appear. Check the information and click the “Confirm Order” button to register for the Communications Contest.

7. The Registration Confirmation screen will appear, confirming your 4-Her’s entries and contest information. If your 4-Her entered the Fashion Revue, click the links in the “Files to Download” section to download the forms that your 4-Her must complete for EACH outfit entered. These forms must be turned in at contest check-in for the entry to be complete, and they will be reviewed by judges.

Changes cannot be made to a confirmed registration via 4-H Online; if your 4-Her needs to change or cancel his/her registration, contact Dr. Alexander Chan at achan@umd.edu or Pam Mack at dmack1@umd.edu, or call 301-868-9636. REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE AT 11:59 PM ON Friday, AUGUST 4, 2017. No changes
