We are designing a new Ad- ministration Building for Beaver Municipal Solutions in Ryley, Alberta with a LEED certification level goal of Gold. The first step towards achieving this goal was a design charrette held on November 6th in Ryley. Lindsey Kindrat from 3 Point Environmental led the charrette, with Carlos, Breanna, the BMS team, and the engineering consult- ant team working through an overview of the LEED v4 rating system. It was a productive meeting in which the ultimate goal was set along with a list of cred- its to target. We had good discussions about building orientation, solar energy, grey water use, and sustainable site features. Having the LEED charrette early in the design process with the whole team present helps everyone understand the goals of the project and achieve better integration, inclusion, and optimiza- tion of LEED concepts into the system designs. A new project that we are undertaking for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is a consolidation and fit-up of their office in the MegaSys Phase II building in Calgary. This is a cool project for us to undertake as we did the ini- tial CFIA fit-up when we designed the Megasys Phase II building in 2008. CFIA will be amalgamating their two Calgary facilities into the MegaSys II building and downsizing from present space allocations. The project includes space for 182 employees with offices, meeting rooms, kitchenettes, quiet rooms, shared equipment spaces, reception/waiting area, pub- lic meeting rooms, emergency operations cen- tre, laboratory and inspection rooms, and IT workrooms. The building will remain occupied and operational throughout the project, with the occupants moving to different floors as the work progresses.
