In 2011 Mrs Morley entered the London Marathon to help raise money for charity. Myself and my daughters went to London to support and cheer her on. It was an amazing atmosphere and whilst watching the event I saw people of all shapes, sizes and ages running and thought to myself, I can do that. (At the time I was very overweight – nearly 22 stone – and thought this would help me lose weight!)

I entered the ballot shortly after the event and forgot about it for 5 months as you have to wait to find out if you got a place. I started to think I didn’t really want a place as 26.2 miles is a long way!

In October the post came and it turned out I had got a place – Mrs Morley didn’t unfortunately! That’s when it got serious, I had to train through the winter in wind, rain, snow, hail so I would be ready the following April to take my place on the start line with 38 000 other people!

This is the medal I got for completing the race. I didn’t win but it is still one of the proudest things I have achieved.

Since then I have done many other runs, some for charity, some for fun and as you can see I have built up quite a collection of medals. All of which I am very proud of because I was never particularly sporty or interested in running when I was younger and it has only been in the last 10 years or so that I have got in to it.

2 – Photographs

I am very lucky to have been able to travel to lots of different places and also to have experience different things like the Olympic Games in 2012 and the Commonwealth Games in 2014 (I am a massive sports fan and love going to live events.) I love to take photos to remember all these things by and usually will put together photo books to remind myself and my family of the experiences we have had together.

This picture is just a selection of some of the photobooks I have created in the past few years.

3 – Piano

I started learning the piano when I was 6 and finished having lessons when I was 16. You would think after 10 years of lessons I would be better than I am but there was always one problem – practise! I used to hate having to practise. I loved playing the piano as long as I could practise music I liked. I never enjoyed practising scales, arpeggios, exam pieces – I just wanted to play the music I wanted to play. One of the benefits of being an adult is that I can now do that – I can play what I want whenever I want. I am very lucky to own a piano so when I want I ca just sit down and play. These last few weeks have given me a lot of chances to do just that.

4 – House

This is where I currently live. We moved here in 2005 when I got a new job ad we left London. At the time my eldest daughter Lottie was only 2 and my youngest daughter wasn’t even born.

There are many reasons it is important, not just because it is where we live now.

It is the house I lived in the longest in my life.

Isobel was born while we lived here. My daughters have both been to school for all their school life from this house.

I have had 3 different jobs whilst living here as has Mrs Morley.

Whilst we are on lock down Mrs Morley and I have been chatting about DIY projects for the house, which is a bit worrying as it will mean jobs for me to do!

5 – Lego

As I am sure I have mentioned many times I a big fan of Star Wars and when they started doing Lego Star Wars I was in my element. Unfortunately, despite you best efforts, I have yet to persuade Mrs Morley to let me have the big Millennium Falcon but I do have some mini sets as you can see from the pictures. As well as the Star Wars Lego I have, my mum still have all the Lego I had as a child which is fantastic and yes I do still play with it when I get chance.

6 – Books

I don’t just tell you how much I enjoy reading so that you will all read as much as you are supposed to at home. I tell you that because it is true. I have hundreds of books at home and one of the few good things to come out of the lock down is the opportunity to get through my To Be Read pile.

I have lots of different types of books. As you would expect lots to do with history but also lots of fiction books to help me choose what books we are going to read in class and I also like to read mystery books.

I am currently reading a biography about the Second World War. After that I will look to read some more children’s fiction ready for another class read.
