Get active If you have internet access, you could try Joe Wicks’ workout which is posted daily on his channel https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1

Or, if you don’t have access to Youtube, try this activity. Spell your name doing the activity for each letter. Can you do your surname too?

Well done beautiful humans! Now your body is energized and ready to learn!

SpellingsPractise the following spelling: Accident, accidentally, actual, actually, address, answer

Grab some paper. Fold your paper into four columns. In the first column, copy your spellings accurately. For the next three columns do look, cover, write, check. You should be familiar with this, as we have done this in school. Then for each word do the following:

1. Write the word 3x 2. Write the word in capital letters 3. Write the word in a mixture of letters – capital letters, and lower case

letters. 4. Write the word – pyramid words.

English WALT: To consistently write in the past tense

Last week, you should have read the diary entry from The Witches. In the diary entry, Luke recalled his day’s events. He met a witch that day and

Page 3: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewLovely Year Fives, We hope you are managing to keep busy – be active, be helpful and stay at home. In these crazy times,

he told his diary what happened.

You will notice that when he was recalling the day’s events, he wrote his diary in the past tense. This is because it had already happened.

Today, we will focus on regular past tense and irregular past tense. Can you remember the difference between the two?

Regular past tense verbs - end in ed.walked, shouted, looked.

Irregular past tense verbs - do not end in ed. e.g swam, made, took

Grab some paper, draw a line down the middle. On one side write regular past tense verbs and on the other side write irregular past tense verbs. Now re-read the diary entry for The Witches and select verbs to place in your chart.

Practise writing in the past tense. Imagine you have visited a zoo. Recall your day’s events by writing a short diary entry.

Circle your regular past tense verbs and draw a rectangle around your irregular past tense verbs.

Where did you go to today? We hope it was somewhere exciting!Maths WALT: Find the perimeter of a given shape

What is a perimeter?

The perimeter is the distance all the way around the outside of a 2D shape.

To work out the perimeter, add up the lengths of all the sides.

If you don’t have a printer to print out the worksheet, then you can draw these shapes onto a piece of paper or ask an adult to draw it for you. Then measure the shapes using a ruler.

rectilinear shapes

What is a rectilinear shape? In geometry, a rectilinear figure can be defined as a plane figure or shape all of whose sides meet at right angles. The interior angle at each vertex of a rectilinear is 90 degrees (90°) or 270 degrees (270°). Here, for instance, are a few irregular polygons that classify as rectilinear shapes.

Literacy WALT: To use conjunctions to add extra detail

Why do we use conjunctions? Can you remember the three different types of sentences?

Page 16: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewLovely Year Fives, We hope you are managing to keep busy – be active, be helpful and stay at home. In these crazy times,

Simple, compound and complex.

Simple sentences – These types of sentences contain no conjunctions. Compound sentences contain coordinating conjunctions.

FANBOYS – can you remember what this stands for?

Subordinating conjunctions are used to form complex sentences. Words like because, if, when, as, until, even though etc

Dear Diary,

I am still on my half term break from school. I have a week off. Today was a good day! We went trick or treating to celebrate Halloween.

I dressed up as a witch. My costume was impressive. I made it myself out of a bin bag. You couldn't tell it was homemade. It looked so good.

I went with my sister. She is older. She can look after me. We were very lucky. We got lots of sweets. I have ate so many sweets. I am beginning to feel sick.

Can you re-write this diary entry to contain conjunctions?

For example, you could take the simple sentence – I dressed up as a witch and form a much longer one.

I dressed up as witch since it was Halloween. By using the conjunction since, more detail has been added.

Extension – Complete conjunctions sheet. You can find this on the home learning section of the school website. It will be dated Wednesday, 10 th June Conjunctions.
