Director of Graduate Programs

• Faculty of Nursing at York University

• Liaison with the Provincial Consortium and the Curriculum Committee via Deans and Directors Group

• Executive responsibility for the NP Program delivery at York University

• Provides counsel and support to students re: course plans, exams, appeals, and clinical placements

• Coordinates student placements• Communicates with Nursing Placement Office

re: contracts for clinical placements issued by the university

• Communicates with university departments, consortium and students re: university policies and procedures (e.g. appeals)

University Site Coordinator/Practicum Coordinator

Program Assistant

• Provides support/counsel to students • Assists students with course plan • Communicates with university

departments, and potential applicants• Books exams, exam reviews, classrooms

Technical Support

• Assists with navigating on the NP Network (i.e., accessing newsgroups)

• Assists with technical/equipment issues

• Manages the Central Region Data Base (CRDB)

Course Faculty

• Provincial Course Professors are responsible for the curriculum and course content

• Utilize input from students, course directors (tutors/instructors), Curriculum Committee and others

• Set the course content and exams• Responsible for releasing student grades to

individual universities and students

Course Directors

• Employed by York University

• Deliver the provincial curriculum and grade assignments and exams

• Have input into course development and resources

• Available for student support and counselling

Course Preceptors

• Provided clinical supervision

• Are not employed by the York University

• Have access to the course materials and can provide input to Course Professors and Course Directors

• Provide evaluation of student performance in the clinical setting

• Do not determine grades or pass/fail

• Pathophysiology: no clinical – biweekly online chat

• Roles and Responsibilities: no clinical – biweekly online chat

• AHAD I : 3 hrs seminar/wk, 78 hours clinical per semester

• AHAD II : 3 hrs seminar/wk, 78 hours clinical per semester

• Therapeutics I: 3 hrs seminar/wk, 78 hrs clinical per semester

• Therapeutics II: 3 hrs seminar/wk, 78 hrs clinical per semester

• Integrative Practicum: 455 clinical hours (35 hrs/wk, 6 hrs seminar biweekly over 13 week period (May-Aug)

* All courses use distance methods

Central Registry Data Base (CRDB)

• The NP Central Registration is an on-line form completed by all students in the NP Consortium

• Demographic data, Course Plan and NP Network Registration

• CRDB is available on available on-line at:

http://crdb.np-education.ca

CRDB

• The information you provide in your NP Course Plan goes to the CRDB

• The CRDB is not a registering system; you must ensure you are registered for your courses through your home university Registrar system

• The CRDB provides access to NP courses

Course Registration at York University

• All students must register for courses at their home university

• Site coordinator and program assistant can provide support with this registration process

PHCNP Program Academic Calendar

Available on the NP website and includes:• exam dates and times • dates and times for Virtual classroom sessions

for Pathophysiology and Roles and Responsibilities

University specific seminars are arranged at your university and will be available on the York Graduate Nursing Faculty Website

• Other important dates for graduate students at York University

Clinical Placements

• All placements are secured and maintained by the site coordinator at York University

• Clinical Request Forms for AHAD, Therapeutics, and the Integrative Practicum are available on the NP Website

• Placements take into consideration the learning needs of the student

Clinical Placements

• Students’ own workplaces are not suitable for clinical placements

• Clinical placement takes place predominantly in primary health care settings i.e. CHC, FHT, GP offices

• Policies related to clinical placements can be found on the York University Faculty of Nursing Website

Clinical Placements

• All consortium universities have assigned catchment areas for placements

• As per your letter of offer you are expected to complete your placements within York’s catchment

• This may mean that you have to travel some distance; generally <60Km

Clinical Placements

• In some instances placements can be secured outside the catchment but this will occur only once the university within that area has completed all of their placements and through collaboration with the other Placement Coordinator(s).

• Start surfing the NP Network • Post a message in the np.welcome forum

• Review NP Consortium guidelines (available under NP Documents)

Get Ready

• Begin all pre-course materials; this will identify your learning needs before you start the NP courses

• All exam dates are posted in the calendar. These dates are firm and cannot be changed (as per policy)

• Familiarize yourself with forums and keep up with reading all postings

• All students must have basic computer and internet skills; if not, a basic computer course is strongly recommended
