Getting Around
!Air – Roissy Charles de GaulleThe RER B suburban citytrain connects Charles deGaulle to Gare du Nord, andbeyond – it runs every 10minutes from 5 am to 11:30pm, costs around EUR 9.50and the ride to central Paristakes about 50 minutes. Youcan also catch the Roissybusshuttle to Opéra – it operatesevery 15-30 minutes between5:45 am and 11 pm, takes 45to 60 minutes and costs EUR10.50. Taxis are readilyavailable, cost around EUR50-70 and take 35-60 minutesdepending on traffic.
!Air – Orly
There are a few transportationoptions from Orly to the centerof Paris. Catch the Orlybusoutside terminal entrances Gor D, which takes 20 minutesand costs approximately EUR7.50. For the train, catch theORLYVAL shuttle train toAntony RER Station (around 8minutes) then line B towardsMitry-Claye (approx. EUR10.90 for the full trip). Taxisare readily available at OrlyAirport – taxi stands areoutside exits L and M andcost around EUR 40–55 to thecenter.

Paris’s train system is wellorganized and connects theentire city. There is no"central station" as such, butGare du Nord to the north ofParis has many connectionsto the airports, RER lines (ahigh-speed suburban rail),Metro lines 4 and 5, andEurostar and Thalys trains tointernational cities. GareMontparnasse in the south ofParis and Gare de Lyon in theeast have high-speed nationaltrain services to west, southand east of France.

The Paris Metro is the fastestand most reliable way tomove around – once you getthe hang of it. Services runfrom 5:30 am – 1:30 amSunday to Thursday (until2:15 am on Fridays,Saturdays and the day beforepublic holidays). One-waytickets cost approximatelyEUR 1.70, ask for a "carnet"of 10 for 13.70, or pay EUR6.80 for a one-day ticket,which includes unlimitedtravel in central Paris (zones 1and 2). Tickets are availableat multilingual machines in thestation. Watch out forpickpockets!

Although there are many busroutes, traffic jams often makejourneys slow. Wherepossible, stick to the Metro. Ifyou do travel by bus, thereare 64 routes that runbetween 5:45 am and 12:30am weekdays and from 7 am– 8:30 pm Sundays. The 73route goes up the Champs-Elysées and past the Arc deTriomphe, and the 69 goespast the Eiffel Tower. Ticketsare available on board andcost around EUR 2 for asingle journey, but it’s best tobuy a "carnet" of 10 at thenearest Metro station.
%Taxi
Taxis are readily available incentral Paris – just hail one onthe street or stop at one of themany taxi stands, usuallylocated near the Metrostations. Taxis are reasonablypriced by European standardsand a ten-minute ride inmoderate city traffic will costaround EUR 15. There'susually a minimum charge ofEUR 6.40. Some drivers maysometimes ask where you’retraveling to before you get in,even though it's technicallyforbidden.
&Car
Driving in Paris is not for thefaint of heart. Trafficcongestion is a continuousproblem, especially between 8– 11 am and 5 – 8 pm.Finding on-street parking (freeafter 7 pm) is difficult and youmust have a "carte destationnement" for pay-and-display machines (available attabacs for EUR 15 or EUR40). Road conditions are goodand the highways easilyconnect you to other Frenchand international cities.
'Bike
One of the most pleasantways to see the City of Lightsis with pedal power. Pick up abike from one of hundreds of"Velib"-branded stationsthroughout the city – most arewithin 300 yards of each otherin the most populated parts ofthe city. You don’t need tosubscribe – just bring a creditcard, buy a ticket from themeter and you’re ready to go.Journeys of less than 30minutes are free; anythinglonger then tickets costaround EUR 1.70 per day,and EUR 8.00 for seven days.

From Paris - Charles De GaulleAirport by TaxiA taxi from the airport usuallycosts EUR 60 and takesabout 50 minutes to get towhere you're staying. Pricescan be higher and travel timelonger during peak hours.
