In 1973 REMBE was founded by Bernhard Penno.
In addition to the core business of bursting discs for
the chemical and process industries we started business
in the field of measurement technology in 1978.
Since 1988 REMBE has continuously increased its export
activities. Today we are represented globally in more
than 70 countries, and have dedicated REMBE facilities
in the key industrial areas. Still a family owned and
privately run business REMBE is able to provide fast,
efficient and reliable solutions.

The Company
REMBE GMBH SAFETY + CONTROL is an independent,
privately run medium-sized family business with the
advantage of short decision-making paths and a high
level of flexibility. Its extraordinary innovative strength
is reflected in numerous patents and in its eagerness
to discover, research and invest.
Product range
REMBE’s core competences include the protection
of industrial plants against vacuum and excessive
pressure operating conditions. Process safety in
industrial production is provided through bursting
discs with various functional principles as well as
with other pressure and breather valves.
Engineering
The product range covers all applications and industries, from
standard products to special high-tech solutions, coupled with
application expertise in all industries throughout the world.
REMBE’s know-how ranges from the lowest to the highest
bursting pressures and includes sensor engineering, software,
standardisation, consultancy, research, development, as well
as prototype testing.
Manufacturing
REMBE manufacturing facilities are located in Brilon, Germany.
Production processes require a minimum of resources, using
state-of-the-art laser machines and high-performance presses.
All standard nominal sizes (DN 15 to DN 1400 / ½" to 56") are
certified under global safety standards and regulations. Each
series that has ever been manufactured can be traced back
to the year 1973, way beyond the average life of any type of
production process plant.
REMBE’s in-house test capabilities offer temperature tests
(from -269 °C to +800 °C, even with high-pressure
applications), explosion tests, the identification of dust
coefficients and tests within pressure ranges of 10 mbarg
to 7,000 barg.

BT-ODV Triple section bursting
discs are normally applied in
low to medium pressure
applications and have an
operating ratio up to 80% of
the burst rating. The burst
element with its laser cut
breaking points ensures a high
degree of precision and in
combination with the sealing
membrane determines the
burst pressure.
In corrosive media applications,
the burst element is isolated
by the sealing membrane, which
is normally made of FEP/PTFE,
but can also be made of SST
for higher burst ratings.
An integrated vacuum support
enables cyclic pressures from
full vacuum to positive pressure
within the 80% ratio boundary.
BT-ODV Discs are installed in
the IG Bursting disc holder.
Sizes from DN 20 (3/4") fit into
the U-Holder unit while the
ST-ODV disc fits into the
S-Holder unit.

These forward acting
Bursting discs are suitable for
a wide range of low to high
pressures. The triple section
design minimises the risk of
fragmentation, at all pressures,
with its star shaped opening
formation.
To achieve the lowest possible
tolerances, the breaking points
are introduced utilising state- of-
the-art laser production
technology. An integral vacuum
support guarantees full vacuum
resistance irrespective of disc
Size, up to DN 600 (24").
The burst element is down-
stream (venting side) of the
process, away from any corro-
sive media, thereby providing
problem free production
in corrosive media processes.
The operating ratio of the
BT-STAR Disc is 80% of the
burst rating.
In applications below 1 barg the
BT-STAR Disc can be installed
directly between companion
flanges, without a companion
holder.
For medium to high burst
ratings, the entire assembly,
including the sealing mem-
brane is constructed of stain-
less steel. When used with
a flat seat IG-HL Burst disc
holder the assembly provides
absolute leak-tight integrity.

BT-IKB
The innovative BT-IKB
patented disc was developed
for the ultimate protection of
equipment such as pressure
vessels, piping, gas cylinders,
reactors and other types of
vessels against pressure and
vacuum.
The discs uninterrupted
totally clean process surface
(there are no score lines,
indentations or imperfections
of any kind) makes it the ideal
solution for sanitary
applications in the food,
biotech and pharmaceutical
industries.
The BT-IKB technology
provides a defined amount of
kinetic energy upon rupture,
which immediately releases
this energy to provide
guaranteed full bore
instantaneous opening.
All engineered weaknesses;
Invisible and accelerated by
Kinetics, are on the
downstream (venting side) of
the disc again without the
need for score lines or knife
blades.
The BT-IKB has an operating
ratio of 90% and guarantees
non-fragmentation.
Easily installed in the IG-KUB
disc holder, it can be installed
between companion flanges
and is fully torque
independent.

BT-KUB / BT-KUB-F(L)
This unique reverse acting
bursting disc, incorporating
laser cut buckling pin design
features, represents the most
rugged and versatile bursting
disc available in today’s
technically driven market.
The buckling pin cut profiles
work according to the formula
calculated by Leonard Euler
and enables the lowest
possible tolerances.
The BT-KUB can be used with
any gas, vapour or liquid media
under the harshest of
conditions due to its standard
operating ratio of 98%, the
tightest operating ratio avail-
able in the burst disc industry.
The two layer material design
and range of materials of
construction offer the greatest
flexibility in cost savings while
maintaining total corrosion
resistance. The disc design
comprises of an upstream
sealing membrane with a
smooth unblemished profile
ie; no scorelines, dimples or
indentations. This makes the
BT-KUB the ideal disc for
aseptic and sanitary
applications due to their
being no available dead space
for bacteria or product
accumulation. The material

membrane should be specified
according to the requirements
of the process (possibly corrosi-
ve) where the disc is being ap-
plied.
Due to the reverse acting com-
pression mode of the disc, it is
also totally immune to back-
pressures and vacuum and is
ideally suited where CIP/SIP
scenarios are used.
Downstream the burst
element with its buckling
pin technology is totally
isolated from the process
and can be confidently
specified in standard
SST irrespective of any
aggressive process
media; dependent upon
no corrosive vapours
being present down-
stream.
The BT-KUB is totally torque
independent when mounted
in the IG-KUB Disc Holder. Its
response pressure performance
(burst rating) is not influenced
by the torque applied. For
pressures below 1.0 barg,
the BT-KUB can be installed
directly between flanges.

BT-KUB-V-Series
With the unique and
innovative generation of
bursting disc BT-KUB-V-Series
for the first time it is possible
to perform the Partial Stroke
Test (PST) on pressure relief
valves (PRV) while in plant
operation conditions, i.e.
“in-situ”. Expensive loss of
production due to downtime
and costly dismantling/
mounting times are reduced
to a minimum. Optimum plant
production is maintained.
The concept of the BT-KUB-
V-Series is both ingenious and
convincing: The bursting disc
is installed upstream of the
pressure relief valve. Apart
from the absolute tight
sealing of the process line,
the pressure relief valve is
now also protected against
the effects of corrosion and
contamination. On site, the
pressure relief valve can be
lift tested for any possible
leakage. The unique back
pressure resistance of the
BT-KUB-V-Series is achieved
by modifying the proven,
double-layer KUB design.
The performance
characteristics and the
flow rate of the pressure
relief valve are not influenced
by the upstream BT-KUB-
V-Series bursting disc.
Conventional single layer
scored bursting discs cannot
meet these requirements.

Reverse Acting Discs for Geothermal Applications
BT-KUB-G-Series
Providing a unique
option, the BT-KUB-G-Series
reverse acting disc is the
world’s first ever bursting
disc manufactured for the
challenging demands of
geothermal power plant
applications, as the
endurance of a bursting
disc is defined by the
extreme temperature
and constant corrosion
requirements.
Special finishing technology
is used to withstand these
aggressive effects, providing
more than double the
lifetime of the disc when
compared with more
conventional “scored”
bursting discs.
Needless to say this provides
considerable operational cost
savings.

Bursting disc holders with
integrated heating channels
are specified typically for
applications such as
polymerising media,
reducing the risks of product
accumulation and adhesion to
a minimum. The heating
channels are integrated all
around the holder
The holder is easily and
safely heated with hot
water/vapour or thermal oil.
Holder connections can be
flanged or threaded or other
bespoke customer driven
designs.
Alternatively the same
holder configuration can
be used as a method of
cooling by utilising water
or refrigerant.

IG-KUB
The reverse acting bursting
discs, BT-KUB and BT-IKB
are installed between the
bursting disc holder IG-KUB.
Consisting of two parts; Inlet
(upstream) and Outlet
(downstream) both parts are
joined together by means of
a preassembled retaining
clamp, which is easily dis-
assembled when the bursting
disc needs to be replaced or
inspected. If the disc is
undamaged it can be re-
assembled into the holder,
or a replacement disc is
installed if the existing disc is
damaged or it has actuated
(opened due to pressure).
The reassembled bursting disc
unit will provide guaranteed
totally leak tight seal due to
the high precision metal-to-
metal sealing configuration.
The metal-to-metal sealing of
the holder does not require
any additional gasket.
The IG-KUB Holder is a pre-
cision engineered component
with very tight tolerances in
order to guarantee leak tight
integrity. When inspecting or
changing out bursting discs,
the metal-to-metal sealing
faces should be totally clean
and free from any mechanical
damage or corrosion. If me-
chanically damaged in any
way the bursting disc holder
will need to be replaced.
If corrosionis evident, correct/
alternative material specifi-
cations should be investi-
gated.

IG-KUB-DD-S
For this version, two BT-KUB
bursting discs are connected
in series. Facilities/production
processes which are subject
to extreme conditions, such
as very corrosive, VOC’s or
other highly toxic media, are
equipped with two bursting
discs in series.
They provide considerably
more safety. Both discs can
be rated at the same pressure
and temperature or rated at
different pressures.
Monitoring of the inter-
space between the two discs
via a tell-tale assembly
comprising of a pressure
gauge and excess flow valve
enables signalling of burst
disc actuation as well as
indicating any leakage
caused by possible corrosion.
In case of identical or
different set pressures the
secondary bursting disc
presents additional safety
for the facility/process.
IG-KUB-DD-S double
disc assembly holder
is a preassembled unit
and is normally installed

of companion weld neck

Dual rated Bursting Disc for Protection against Pressure and Vacuum
BT-ZW-F
The bi-directional acting
bursting disc combines
the proven function of two
bursting discs: on the one
hand that of the forward-
acting triple section bursting
disc ODV and on the other
hand the reverse acting
buckling pin bursting
disc KUB.
Different response pressures
can be achieved. It protects
in one direction against
inadmissible pressure and in
the opposite direction against
inadmissible vacuum. The
bursting discs takes on the
function of two bursting discs
in one single assembly.
The BT-ZW-F bursting disc
offers the benefits of freedom
from maintenance, reliability
and robustness, even at
lowest response pressure. The
ZW opens fragmentation-free
in both directions and is suit-
able for liquids and gases.
Unpressurised tanks with
low stress capability are
typical applications.
In the vacuum direction, the
response pressure is fixed
by the forward-acting burst
element with its breaking
points. Protection in the
pressure direction is provided
according to the KUB
buckling-pin principle.
The sealing function is
provided by a PTFE or
FEP membrane.
The bursting disc is mounted
directly between flanges or
angular rings. A separate
bursting disc holder is not
required. By means of the
SNR inductive signalling unit
the bursting disc can be
monitored in both directions
at the same time.

SB
The maintenance free SB
Signalling membrane
monitors leakages
downstream of the
bursting disc assembly
where the disc assembly is
not fitted with an integrated
signalling device.
Sizes: DN 20 (3/4") to
DN 600 (24") are available.
As with other signalling
devices it works on a simple
OPEN or CLOSED Circuit
principal (Normally Closed).
Additional gasketting is not
necessary. Even minor
leakages are able to be
detected due to the low
response pressure.
SB-S
The SB-S Signalling membrane
has the same design features
as the SB but includes a
‘Relief Bore’ in the centre of
the signalling membrane.
The SB and SB-S are directly
mounted between DIN or
ANSI flanges. With its flat
low profile design the SB-S
can be simply retrofitted into
existing pipework flanged

Device
BIRD
This retrofittable signalling
device contains a ceramic bar
with integrated electrical
conductors. Mounted
downstream of the
bursting disc the BIRD
mechanically breaks. The
function of interrupting
the closed circuit is like that
of the classic signalling
membrane type SK.
The BIRD is suitable for

Signalling
with Integrated
Device
SK
The SK is an integrated
signalling device which is
directly connected on top
of the bursting disc
(downstream). Upon
actuation of the bursting disc
the normally closed circuit is
interrupted.
The SK can be used on triple
section bursting discs as well
as on reverse acting KUB
bursting discs larger than
DN 80 (3").
The SK signalling unit is
intrinsically safe and can be
used in explosion hazardous
areas ie Zones 0 and 20.

In order to facilitate
installation the SK Signalling
unit can be manufactured
with an additional space ring
and cable gland.

(Zero Electrical Current)
FOS
The FOS fibre optic bursting
membrane monitors leakages
and the response of bursting
discs in high corrosive
atmospheres and hazardous
areas, and/or whenever
electrical connection is not
permitted or possible at the
point of installation.
The signal element consists
of glass fibre with a strength
< 250 µm. In case of the
signalling membrane being
activated the luminous flux
is interrupted due to the tear
of the optical fibre.
The optional fibre optical
evaluation unit (FOA)
immediately provides an
electrical signal for optical
or acoustic alert that can also
be used to enable system
shut-down or for further data
processing.
At the same time the FOA
fulfils the function of an
opto-electrical converter.

ELEVENT Breather Valve
Vessels and tanks with low
design pressures are effec-
tively protected against the
effects of excessive pressure
and vacuum with ELEVENT
pressure relief valves. They
systematically and effectively
prevent fugitive emissions of
gas, or other pollutant media,
while at the same time nega-
ting explosive scenarios as
well as from potentially
problematic air intake.
A constant controlled tank
pressure level is assured.
The unique low profile,
compact ELEVENT valve
design is accomplished by
the full deep-drawn stainless
steel metal housing.
Available with multiple
connection options including
sanitary clamp connections
system offers a modular
assembly as well as inter-
changeable components.
Maintenance is a quick
and easy process, requiring
no special tools.
The optimised “air cushion“
sealing principle provides a
smooth valve stroke during
operation and provides repea-
table leak-tight sealing as
well as preventing abrasion
and valve flutter, synonymous
with weight loaded low
pressure applications.
The pioneering breather valve
concept with its deep-drawn
housing presents a flexible
configuration of available
connections, allowing any
client to customise according
to their requirements and
specifications of the facility.
Connection designs with ANSI
flanges, Tri-Clamp and pipe
screw connections compliant
with DIN 11851 as well as CF
and KF flanges are available

Definition of “Bursting Disc”
Acc. to EN ISO 4126-2
A bursting disc safety device is a non-reclosing pressure relief device used to protect pressure equipment such as pressure vessels, piping, gas cylinders or other enclosures from excessive pressure and/or excessive vacuum.
Acc. to AD 2000-Merkblatt A1 (October 2006 edition)
2.2. Bursting disc devices comprise a bursting element and a clamping device….The bursting elements are ruptured by their response and this results in sudden release of the relief cross-section. In contrast with safety valves, the relief cross-section remains open after the response of the bursting safety devices.
Use of bursting discs (acc. to AD 2000-Merkblatt A1 (October 2006 edition)
2.3 The use of bursting safety devices will be considered if, e.g.
(1) A rapid pressure rise has to be taken into account,(2) The operation conditions can result in deposits and jamming which might impair the efficiency or other safety devices against excess pressure,(3) there are increased seal requirements,(4) large relief cross-sections are necessary.
bursting disc safety device - non-reclosing pressure relief device actuated by differential pressure and designed to function by the bursting of the bursting disc(s), and which is the complete assembly of installed components including, where appropriate, the bursting disc holder
bursting disc assembly - complete assembly of components which are installed in the bursting disc holder to perform the desired function
bursting disc - pressure-containing and pressure-sensitive component of a bursting disc safety device
bursting disc holder - part of a bursting disc safety device which retains the bursting disc assembly in position
conventional domed bursting disc (also referred to as: forward-acting) - bursting disc which is domed in the direction of the bursting pressure (i.e. where the bursting pressure is applied to the concave side of the bursting disc)
slotted lined bursting disc - bursting disc made up of two or more layers, at least one of which is slit or slotted to control the bursting pressure of the bursting disc
reverse domed bursting disc (also referred to as: reverse-acting) - bursting disc which is domed against the direction of the bursting pressure (i.e. where the bursting pressure is applied to the convex side of the bursting disc)
flat bursting disc - bursting disc having one or more layers which is flat when installed. It may be made of a ductile or brittle material
graphite bursting disc - bursting disc manufactured from graphite, impregnated graphite, flexible graphite or graphite composite and designed to burst due to bending or shearing forces

• For isolating the safety valve from corrosive media and negating the possibility of product accumulation • Negating unnecessary fugitive emissions (TA Luft = Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control) • For enabling cost effective relief valve material selection irrespective of type of media• For minimising the effects of high temperatures on the relief valve• For avoiding loss of product in the event of a pressure condition • For extensive maintenance cost-savings (In-situ testing of valve is also possible)
• Pressure Relief Valve• Burst Disc Assembly (Disc and Holder)• Tell-tale assembly comprising of: Nipple, T-Piece, Excess Flow Valve and Pressure Gauge.
• When selecting a bursting disc safetydevice the influence of temperatureneeds to be considered. The relevantburst pressure is generally specified atambient room temperature. In case ofdeviating burst temperatures the burstpressures at operating temperature androom temperature are indicated in thetag plate of the bursting disc as well ason the burst test certificate.
• The graph shows the exemplarychange in burst pressure of the burstingdisc manufactured of different materialsas a result of the temperature.
