Pressing ENTER instead of mouse clicks can save time and effort

1) You’ve put in your answer. Instead of moving the mouse to point at

“Check Answer” and clicking, you can Just Press ENTER.

2) The lovely green checkmark box tells

you that you’re right. Instead of

moving the mouse to point at “OK”

and clicking, you can Just Press

ENTER.

3) The green checkmark box goes away

and your question is

still there. But

instead of moving the

mouse to point to the

next question and

clicking, you can Just

Press ENTER and it

will move to the next

question.

Fractions without the mouse – use the forward slash key, /

The answer to “Simplify 9

21.” is

3

You can click the fraction button in the

palette and fill in the numerator box and the

denominator box.

The keyboard shortcut is to type numerator

(press 3), then the forward slash, then the

denominator (press 7). MyMathLab

recognizes the forward slash as a fraction bar and it will reformat your answer area

appropriately.

This trick only works with simple numerators. If you want to type 𝑎+3

7, you probably have to use

the palette’s fraction tool. If you have to type more after the fraction, as in 3

7+ 5𝑥, press the

Right Arrow key on your keyboard to get out of the denominator and continue with the rest of

the answer.

Exponents without the mouse – use the circumflex key, ^ (SHIFT + 6) See problem at right. The

first term in the answer is

−5𝑚2. Instead of clicking

the exponent button in the

palette, you can press the M

key and then the “^”

character (SHIFT + 6), and

MyMathLab will create an

exponent box.

When the exponent is finished, press the RightArrow key to continue with the rest of the

answer.

Multiplication alternatives – The asterisk * or ( ) parentheses

You can avoid some mouse moving by using the asterisk, SHIFT + 8, as your multiplication dot. Or use the asterisk on the numeric keypad. Also parentheses can be used to indicate multiplication, like 2(3), which means the same as 2 ∙ 3 or 2 × 3.

Reviewing a Test Suppose you’ve completed a Test and you want to go back and review the Test. Click

Gradebook. The Test is probably the first item listed. Click on the Review link next to the Test.

“MyMathLab won’t let me into my next assignment” because of a Prerequisite.

If the prerequisite assignment is a Quiz, just redo the entire Quiz, repeatedly, until you meet the required score.

But if the prerequisite assignment is a Homework or a Notebook, or Prep, you can improve the score. Here’s how (turn the page…)
