Lawyer Wade Mills Declares Candidacy for Shelburne Council
SHELBURNE: On Monday, July 28, 2014, local lawyer Wade Mills filed nomination papers to officially
announce his candidacy for one of the five Shelburne Council seats up for grabs in the upcoming municipal
election scheduled for October 27, 2014.
“After a lot of thought and encouragement from a number of local residents, I have decided to offer my name
for election to Shelburne Council,” Mills said. “Our current Council has accomplished some important work
but we have had the same Council members in place for a number of years now without any change. People
are telling me that they want some fresh thinking and some new blood around that Council table.”
Wade plans to spend the rest of the summer and fall meeting and visiting with local residents to hear their
concerns and ideas. Before the election on October 27th he will release a comprehensive platform for voters
to consider that will be focused on four key priorities:
Effective Local Government
Stronger Community
Greater Opportunity
A Strategy for Youth
“Shelburne is at a critical juncture right now. We have seen a lot of change in the past few years and more
change is on the way.” Mills said. “In order to manage this change effectively, I believe that we will need a
good balance of experience and new ideas on Council.”
Wade grew up in Mulmur Township and attended Centre Dufferin District High School here in town. After
receiving his law degree and some valuable work experience he returned home to Shelburne in 2010 and
became a partner in the law firm of Timmerman, Haskell & Mills LLP.
“My roots are here in this community and I have always had a strong desire to get involved and give back,”
said Wade. “I am excited about the opportunity to serve in this way and I am confident that my youth, energy,
and ability to look at things from a new perspective will help us prepare Shelburne for a vibrant and exciting
future. I hope that the people of Shelburne will agree and that I can count on their support come October
27th.”
