Welsh Singer Songwriter’s Debut In Hollywood
Anglesey based singer songwriter Meinir Gwilym is to headline the 2014 St David’s Day Festival in Hollywood. The annual event organized by Welsh American Lorin Morgan-Richards is taking place at the Cinefamily Silent Movie Theater in Hollywood, California on March 1st 2014 Meinir Gwilym is an acclaimed artist with awards including ‘Composer of the Year’ and ‘Best Female Artist’ (BBC Radio Cymru Rock and Pop Awards). Addition-ally, Meinir has been sponsored by Yamaha and in 2005 had a one hour doc-umentary about her life shown on S4C.
Also appearing is harpsichordist Christopher D Lewis from Rhiwbina, the Welsh Choir of Southern California and harpist Aedan MacDonnell. Swansea based Jason Shepherd will be running a Welsh language workshop. There will also be promotion of Welsh music, food and gifts as well as a book release about Welsh Saints.
Organiser Lorin Morgan-Richards commented “I’m very excited to see the reaction of attendees when Meinir Gwilym takes the stage. There is no greater Welsh musician right now that has yet to perform in the states. The Cinefamily Silent Movie Theater is a historic venue that has seen many fa-mous faces grace its stage, and being in Hollywood, we’ve also had gener-ous support from Welsh stars like Michael Sheen, Ioan Gruffudd, Henry Thomas, and the families of Richard Burton and Frank Lloyd Wright.
