A brief historyIn 1967, the building contractor SAM created a new service aimed at professionals in the western France regions of Brittany and Loire-Atlantique: equipment rental. It consequently opened a first office in Hennebont, southern Brittany, and started to develop first regionally and then throughout the country. In 1987, SAM Location took the innovative step of marking its machine fleet with a single, easily distinguishable colour code: red and grey. In 1994, three years after its 100th branch opened in Marseille, SAM Location changed names to become LOXAM.

Number 1 in France Having become a leading name, recognised throughout France, LOXAM continued to develop its domestic activities both by regularly opening new branches and by acquiring well-known rental firms such as Laho Equipement and Loueurs de France, to offer its clients an ever-denses network.

… then in EuropeIn 1996, the Group set up an office in Switzerland, its first foray beyond the French borders. There then followed a period of intense European development marked by openings in Belgium and Germany (1999), then in the UK and Ireland (2000), Spain (2002), Luxembourg (2005), the Netherlands (2006), Denmark (2007), and Sweden and Norway (2013). In 2010 LOXAM took its first steps in Africa with its first branch in Morocco.

More recently the Group has bolstered its European footprint with the acquisition in December 2013 of the Danish firm Dansk Lift (11 branches in Denmark, Norway and Sweden) and that, in July 2014, of one of the leading equipment rental companies in the Netherlands, WORKX (41 branches).

Today the LOXAM network is spread across 13 countries and is universally acknowledged and well-respected, as demonstrated by the Group’s recent election as Rental Company of the Year by the European Rental Association (ERA).

One of the leading industry figures in Europe today, the LOXAM Group boasts a total workforce of 4,400 employees, a client portfolio of 170,000 customers and 2013 turnover of 805 million euros.

For 48 years, the LOXAM Group has unceasingly pursued the development of the widest possible rental range whilst observing a commitment to responsibility, keen to care for the safety of people and protect the environment. This commitment has come to life with the deployment of a team dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This move is a reflection of the social and environmental considerations incorporated within the Group’s development strategy and which can be considered an industry first.

LOXAM stands out as a responsible rental company with results to show for it: ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification in all of the Group’s units, and more specific certifications for some of its activities or countries: MASE certification for all of the LOXAM POWER and LOXAM LEV networks, VCA in the Netherlands, etc.

LOXAM,workingtoprotecting the environmentLOXAM was quick to incorporate sustainable development in its key considerations: an approach which is inherent in the activity of equipment rental, its job and its vocation. The Group thus developed environmental management tools in order to circumscribe the impact of its activity on the environment.

From sorting waste to recycling machines at the end of their lives or reducing fossil fuel and water consumption, LOXAM has taken a host of steps to fight waste whilst safeguarding the long-term future of its equipment fleet.

LOXAM also aims to reduce noise pollution and dust emissions caused by its activities, and pays particular attention to the total control of the risk of pollution, in particular whenever fuel has to be transferred.

Inaugurated in 2014, the new Equipment recycling centre located in Saint-Paterne (near Le Mans, western France) is an excellent instance of LOXAM’s highly-demanding environmental policy and its stringent quality approach for the benefit of the environment and people. Covering an area of 1.3 hectares, the LOXAM recycling centre enables the safe and easy processing of: new equipment, their preparation and transfer to branches, the inspection and servicing of machines, the recovery of spare parts and the overseas sales of certain equipment in the LOXAM fleet that no longer meets European rental market standards. In 2014 no fewer than 1,770 trucks transited through this facility, which, just like the rest of the Group, is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified. The LOXAM recycling centre has received almost 23,000 items of equipment and recycled 129 t of ordinary industrial waste, 26 t of hazardous waste and 2,011 t of recoverable waste in the safest possible conditions.

Headquartered centrally in the country in Mannheim (near Frankfurt), the subsidiary currently operates a network of 14 generalist branches. Morocco has been experiencing steady and continuous growth for the past ten years, so it is only logical that LOXAM decided to set up in the country. Since 2011, LOXAM Morocco has constantly grown and today has three branches in the country, following the most recent opening of a branch in Jorf Lasfar.
