A Hotel, A Passion, A Concept

Inspired by the famous artist Duke Ellington, the hotel is a tribute to Jazz Music.

Portraits in black and white of artists of the early 50’s are exposed in all corridors

of the hotel, transporting its guests directly into a Jazzy feel. Each of the 110 rooms and

suites represent a different style inspired by Jazz musicians and that specific time period.

The public areas have been decorated with various small details which send us

straight back to the 50s. An antique map of the world covers the main wall of the bar and

represents the main destinations of Air France at that time.

The piano recreates the warm atmosphere of the famous Jazz Bars of New York.

The bar offers a direct access to the sunny, intimate patio in the middle of the hotel,

which is a real surprise to its guests. There, customers can spend a lovely

relaxing coffee break and meet up for an after work drink.

Since the re-opening in January 2007, Hotel Ellington has gained a solid experience

in organizing business and private events: corporate meetings, seminars, conventions,

executive committees, cocktails, ...

A tribute to Jazz

Jazz Music was born in New Orleans, USA, during the beginning of the XXth Century.

It is the music that combines African and Western cultures to create its unique sound.

As a mix of Blues, ragtime and European rhythms, Jazz is an Afro-American music which

uses mainly the blues and swing notes. Throughout the XXth century, it has gained

widespread popularity beyond the borders of the United States.

The jazz artist Duke Ellington is one of the most famous Afro-American personalities of

all times as Bob Blumenthal stated on the Boston Globe: “In the century since his birth,

there has been no greater composer”. He has recorded for several American record

brands and played in numerous films which have helped him become even better known.

Duke Ellington used to perform at the Cotton Club, one of the famous night clubs of

Harlem New York which became popular due to many personalities who performed there.

The relationship with the Jazz music does not only exist with Hotel Ellington, but also

with Nice, the capital of the French Riviera, which celebrated in February 1948 the first

jazz festival in the world. The event is still organized nowadays and it is of great success

with well-known artists flying over to perform live in the open air every year at only 5

minutes walking distance from the hotel.

The Rooms: 4 Categories, 4 Atmospheres

The hotel offers 110 rooms and suites, recently renovated, distributed in four different

categories. Four ways to give each room an exclusive touch.

The Classic rooms are highlighted by the oriental style with the warm colors of the

Sahara desert together with the firm forged iron furniture. On the other hand the

Deluxe rooms are inspired by a modern approach. They are made up by the refining

contrast with the cool off black wood and the energized red.

Further, our Executives and Junior Suites represent a typical French decoration inspired

by the elegant style of Louis XVI. To suite more of our customers’ needs, we further

designed a few of those rooms with a refined modern style as well.

In all our rooms we provide high-speed wireless internet, flat screen TV with international

TV channels, hair dryer, air conditioning, safety box, free mini bar on arrival, a set of tea

and coffee and to ensure your satisfaction, our room service is available suiting your

requirements. For every coffee lover, the hotel proposes a Nespresso machine in all

Executive and Junior Suite categories.

The Duke Bar & Lounge

As a tribute to the famous Jazz artist Duke

Ellington, the bar which carries his name is the

most impressive feature of the hotel, because

of its special decorations and cozy atmosphere.

A reproduction of the world map is decorating

the main wall of the bar, showing the major

travel destinations of Air France at the beginning

of the XXth century.

The design of the hotel is actually an invitation

to the guests journey back in the 50s, where jazz

was the only watchword.

The piano put at the guest’s disposal for passionate

piano players, recreates the cozy atmosphere of

the famous Jazz bars of New York.

18h to 20h: Happy Hour with up to 50% off for all

drinks in the menu and the tapas

The Lounge & The Sunny Patio

Either winter or summer hotel Ellington has diverse suggestions for its customers.

During winter, the lounge which is located inside the hotel next to the bar,

in a separate intimate and homey atmosphere perfect for a get together with friends

or for a business meeting, in the heart of Nice is open to welcome its guests.

The room still kept its fascinating authentic marble from 1920s, making the room elegant

and fashionable in the same time.

Along with the beginning of summer, hotel Ellington proposes the sunny patio in the cozy

outside area of the hotel. The lounge, the bar and the breakfast restaurant, have direct

opening to the stunning patio of 160m², which is designed for its customers to have a

relaxing afternoon or a night drink, far from the loud and agitated Nice.

The patio can also be booked and redecorated to suite each of the customer’s specific

requests for any type of private event such as: cocktails, gala evenings, products

promotions and any others.

The Home-made Breakfast

Served in the Blue Note restaurant,

the American breakfast buffet offers a wide

selection of teas, coffees and juices accompanied

by freshly baked pastries, biscuits and homemade

cakes, prepared by our chef every morning.

As the breakfast is the most important meal

of the day, our team proposes all the services

to make your morning a happy one and up to

your tastes : a table carefully dressed, a basket

with a variety of bread, a large choice of cereals,

hot and cold drinks all to satisfy your appetite.

Because everybody has different habits and

schedules, the hotel Ellington proposes several

offers for each guest to feel like home.

From the buffet to the breakfast box, in room meal,

each guest can have his breakfast at his own

convenience, within the time period 7am-10:30am.

Moreover, all the meeting rooms are well

equipped with: video projector, screen and

paperboard. Any other technical equipment

is available upon request.

The Lounge Bar and the terrace are also

available for the coffee breaks, welcome cocktails,

business lunch or any other needs of the client.

Each meeting room can be personalized and

can easily be adaptable to all kinds of events such

as launch, business meeting, conventions, etc.

A certified Green Key eco friendly hotel

Since the beginning of 2013, Ellington Hotel has joined the small circle

of the Green Key certified hotels. This helps distinguish tourists establishments

supporting the environment by being engages in eco friendly activities.

Created in 1994 in Denmark, the Green Key has now approved 2100 establishments in

41 different countries. In France, Hotel Ellington is one of the only 147 hotels to respect

Committed to an environmental friendly policy, Hotel Ellington

has implemented environmentally responsible actions that earned its

distinction between other hotels. Every year, the hotel presents the actions taken to

protect the environment and also the future plans that also meet the requirements of

the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

The jury, composed of experts and professionals from the tourism and environmental

protection industry, renewed Ellington’s Hotel certification for 2014 and also agreed to

the new actions planned to sustain the environment for 2015.

The city of Nice, like Hotel Ellington is encouraging its residents and as well its visitors to

maintain the environment by putting at their disposal different kinds of bins to sort out

the trash, bicycles to rent and other actions.

Nice, an Exceptional Destination

Hotel Ellington is placed in a traditional

« Niçoise » house built in 1920 and was

completely renovated into the unique Jazzy

Boutique hotel in the center of Nice, in 2007.

The Ellington hotel is situated in the heart of the

city, just a few minute walking distance from the

shopping area, the beach, the Acropolis Congress

Centre, the old town with its famous Flower

Market.

Nice is not only known for its beautiful beaches

and the sunny weather but also for festivals &

events it hosts annually.

From February to March, during the famous

traditional Carnival the whole city is decorated in

festive colors, with flowers and an energetic

atmosphere with music and dancing rhythms. The

event ends with the impressive incineration of the

King of the Carnival.

Just like the hotel Ellington, the whole city is filled

with Jazz Music during the annual famous Nice

Jazz Festival where many international artists fly

over to perform live in the open air.

In winter, when other cities are covered in white,

Nice turns into a dream land of Christmas Market,

Santa Claus, big wheel which proposes a

panoramic view of the whole French Riviera and

the big open air ice rink. The beautiful city of Nice
